Gaming Headphones Astro MLG A40 - Blu-ray Forum

Anyone know if these are worth $250? My son wants them for Christmas, but I can't see spending this kind of $$ on gaming headphones when I've seen others around for <$150. So, are they worth it? If not, other options? He wants them for XBL gaming. Any help would be appreciated.

Spend less and get a Turtle Beach setup.

i don't recommend any headphones until i've tried them.

i have been thoroughly impressed by some $60 headphones and disgusted at the pricetag of some $200 headphones.

on the other hand i have a pair of AKGs that i will kill for if they were stolen that were $200. best deal i've ever gotten to this date i think.

I used to have these but ended up selling them to a friend..

They work as stated and are LOADS better than the crap Turtle Beach keeps pumping out...

BUT unless you're gaming almost non-stop, you just don't get the use you'd want out of $250 cans, you can't justify the purchase.

I originally bought these to make sure my parents and girlfriend did not wake up when I had a late night gaming session.. I have found that my Ultimate Ears 5pros do just as good of a job as the Astros, you just don't get a mic and the directional sound isn't the best, but it more than does the job.

So...

If you're son is playing 3-4 hours everyday, then it's worth it... If not, just buy a good pair of cans (I prefer "In Ear Monitors [IEMs]"), try to stay away from most other gaming sets, they tend to be kinda junky and no matter what they claim, they can not produce a true surround sound.
