Default Love to see some pics please

if all goes well ill be buying a house that has a nice space for my home theater...i'd like to see what you guys might have done with a space of 19'x10' or around there...not really looking for living rooms, but more of a separate theater room

I can only tell you what I would do, I can't show you since I don't have a CAD program or the space myself. But what is your budget looking like to do stuff to this room? Are you keeping all of your stuff or upgrading/replacing stuff?

My room was "Small" if that's what you're getting at..... but it's also very "Unusual" shaped since it's an attic... . and has challenges, like stairs etc...

Every room is different..... once you get the place, take some pictures..... don't put the cart in front of the horse.... your theater will come in time.... if you buy the gear etc. now... you may make a mistake... it's best to do a lot of research before purchasing.... so you should spend time getting to know the room first

Here's what I did with my room. It is slightly bigger than your space 25x14, but could give you ideas for a smaller space.

The room ran me about $50K CDN doing all of the labour myself with 2 friends. Mind you that also involved completely gutting the previous room, having the electrical all redone, the plumbing and HVAC was also redone. 2 layers of drywall with green glue, fabric, acoustic materials, etc...

Don't forget how expensive some of the things would cost otherwise. Also remember that doing it yourself is not always cheaper (especially if you dont know what you are doing).

materials add up really quickly. Staggered stud walls require almost twice as much wood, insulation, then twice as much drywall, green glue isnt cheap either,mudding. Had to hire an electrician, permit and inspection fee's, plumbing and HVAC aren't that cheap either.

Then you have sand for the stage, plywood, bending ply, Glue, acoustik mat for under the stage, roofing felt for inbetween plywood sheets.

then the riser gets most of the same treatment as the stage, MDF for the columns, 50 yards of fabric for the walls/ bulkhead. Acoustic materials, Bass traps for the corners and inside bulkheads, Crown moulding, Solid core door, All the wiring for the theater equipment, PVC to run the wiring through for future use, paint for anything not fabric covered. Carpet was about $4K alone with excellent underpad. and so on, by the time you look at all the receipts they add up.

Heck we even went through about 15000 screws in there, some things were over built but I'd rather have that then hear things rattle when the trinity's get to pumpin' {lol}

Also you have to add the tools we had to pick up for various jobs... Cant build some things right without the right tools...

Before we started the job I got a few quotes here to see what they would come in at to build it for me, cheapest quote I got was $95K and the highest I got was $110K. All in all the job was completed for half of the cheapest quote.

Thanks for the compliments guys, since I've posted in this thread I have had a slew of PM's asking various questions.

I am happy to help anyone building there dream theater, and will offer the knowledge I have gained from my project. However most of the questions can be answered in my thread located here.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=83610

since most PM's are about equipment and how things were done, the first post in my thread has details to most of it. If you require any furthur assistance with things not located in that thread you can PM me or leave a question/message in there.

Thanks again for the kind words.
