I have my components in the open near my screen... and the lights drive me crazy when I am watching a movie. I've covered most of the lights with little bits of tape.... but the display on the receiver has been a tougher nut. You don't want to hide it because you need it.
The display on my receiver has 3 dimmer settings. I had the idea of covering it with window tinting so that it only shows on it's brightest setting and disappears when it's on it's dimmest. The trick will be finding the right shade I guess. I found a 24 sheet sample pack for $4.... so I think I'll order it and give it a shot. Think it will work? |

I work with pressure sensitive vinyl quite a bit, and used to work around window tint years ago.
The idea will probably work, but just to let you know that the tint does have a glue which adheres it to glass. The tint may leave a glue residue on the display if you should ever remove it. Cleaning the glue off can be done, but you may be left with a scratched or otherwise compromised surface on the display. Proceed only if you are willing to deal with this possibility. |

they do sell tint removal kits at walmart, and I'm sure many other places. I don't see why you couldn't just take some regular scotch tape, and attach it to your display, sit back and see the results before pulling the trigger on cutting it and putting it on the window. I know with car windows you usually wet it then attach it with a squeege...so you might want to be careful of that (moisture obviously). Get us some pics for whatver you do. I will say with mine, I can barely read the display from where I sit.

![]() I have an older Denon (not sure the model) as well as a Marantz 7001 and 5001, and all three have this feature. I have the 7001 setup in a "component" area of my movie room no-where near the screen or seating etc... (can't see it at all) yet I still have it set up to turn off the display..... not sure why, just an old habit perhaps. |
