Easy to drive speakers.

What speakers would you guys recommend as an easy load on an AVR? I have a NAD T765 (80w per channel). It's probably better to stick with 8ohm rather than 4ohm, even though I believe the NAD can handle 4ohm without a problem. And how much of a role does the sensitivity rating play when it comes to power required? My room is 13x32x7 (approx 3000cuft). My main listening will be HT with 2 channel a close second. I want to stick with the AVR & not need to add any amps. I'm currently getting ready to sell off some of my gear & want to start from scratch with a complete package from the same company (mains, center & surrounds). No more mix & matching speakers. I'm pretty much in the process of downsizing my system.

I currently have dual Velo SPL-1200R subs so the low end isn't an issue. I've run bookshelves with superb results, but I'm also looking at floorstanders. My budget for the 5 speaker system will be approx 1.5-2k. Thanks in advance.

Anything 8ohm with a 90db or better sensitivity rating are going to be easy to drive. Honestly, you can even go below that for sensitivity. Chances are realistically that you're not going to push your speakers to the full 80 watts anyway, so as long as they're clean watts just about any 8ohm speaker.

Traditionally, Klipsch are very sensitive. Polk, Definitive Technology I know both have around 90db sensitivity or better. I'm sure Energy, a lot of others. While I'm not familiar with their stats, Paradigm, B&W and the rest should be ok as well.

Honestly, even though I take sensitivity into consideration, I wouldn't ponder over it too much.

Klipsch ... Just look and see what speaker has the higest Db output @ 1W ... Like Aramis said ...anything over 90 Db is good

Yes Aramis, Energys are easy to drive, I think mine have a sensitivity of about 94-96

I wouldn't be overly concerned about sensitivity, although speakers with a rating of 90db and higher are easier to drive. Having said that, I run Totem's and their sensitive at about 87db hasn't been an issue for me with my Yamaha HTR-6190 (same as RX-V1800) at 130 w/p/c/.

I have no doubt your NAD at 85 watts produces purer and cleaner wattage than my Yamaha, so I would say...buy what you want. Go and audition some brands and decide from there.
