After reading through many threads/posting I notice that many people either wait for a re-release or they import their blu rays in order to obtain the "Extras/Special Features". IMO, I am more interested in the PQ/SQ of the movie. Of all the blu rays I have, I have never watched any of the extras.
Thoughts anyone, are the majority more interested in the extras than the movie or does it matter? |

That is the reason why I haven't purchased 'The usual suspects", I'll keep my 2 disc DVD edition until s more complete BD is released... I do see your point however, there are movies I have on BD without any extras and that doesn't bother me... To me, depends on the movie... |

Extras are nice but I couldn't care less about them now. Now I think they're nothing more than just an excuse for studios to double or triple dip. Back during DVD I was amazed at how much I double dipped for DVDs. Especially since I rarely watched the special features more than once. I got smart about that fast and now I don't care about them anymore. I do kinda feel sorry for the people that do though, cause as you said, studios routinely leave them out or have them available in some regions, but not others, etc etc. causing people to have to hold out or go through other means to obtain them. And sometimes people think the extras aren't good enough or plentiful enough, so that causes them to be disappointed and more willing to double or triple dip for new extras. Just too many variables and hassles to deal with. My days of double dipping are over with Blu ray. As long as the A/V quality of a release is good, that's fine with me, as the only reason I'll ever double dip now is if a re-release has a vastly superior transfer from the previous release.

The only times I watch the extras is when I'm too hung over to get up and change the bluray. Some extras are cool like the imax ones on the dark knight was cool to watch and some can be funny as hell like in step brothers the multiple job interviews but I really care about the pq/aq way more

im big into filmmaking so i enjoy watching the extras, but i realize the point of blu-ray is primarily to enjoy the upgraded PQ and AQ and that's what matters most to me
that being said though, it bothers me when blurays come out without any extras from previous dvd versions, not just because of the above, but also because i dont get how studios ever expect people to start buying the bluray version over the dvd when the bluray isn't always giving them what dvds already offer? that's the reason i'm still keeping a lot of my 2-disc or special edition dvds, since for whatever reason some or all special features aren't even included on BD releases (cough kingdom of heaven COUGH ![]() Last edited by Sussudio; 01-21-2009 at 12:50 PM. |

In most cases the pre-existing extras make no difference to the price.

If I had to choose Blu-ray with no extras over SD with hours of extras, I would take the Blu-ray. But I do care about extras. This is especially true with my favorite movies such as The Shawshank Redemption. It's interesting to see the interviews with Freeman, Robbins, and Darabont.
That said, I recently took advantage of the Planet Earth offer at Amazon.uk. I sacrificed the 11 Planet Earth diaries and gave the SD set to a friend. Picture quality clearly won out there. |

i don't care for extras, i want the movie. i would rather have an extended version of a movie than the 90 hours of extras which to me is plan stupid. they should make plain Blu discs that r extended. than make another with ALL the extras instead of making ppl buy just one kind and b stuck with crap u don't want. I HATE that "digital copy" i mean like WTF!!!! come on. just give me the MOVIE.
Yes, don't like to hate but there r ppl out there who want the top spec model but don't make me buy it just to have the movie. it should b just like Transformers disc: plain DVD; 2 disc set; special edition; plain Blu-Ray; Blu SE DC. i would b ![]() Studios need to spend more time with PQ/AQ then all these extras. Blu-Ray should b no less then TrueHD or MA 5.1, 6.1 & 7.1. no more DD 5.1 just DTS 5.1 as the lesser sound anything else is DUMB!!!! ![]() |

Chalk me up as also having no interest in a digital copy, but I do watch and enjoy the extras...especially if it's a film I really enjoyed. Some of the best extras I've watched recently include the one on the Godfather set that talked about the restoration process, several on the Wall-E disk (they included some additional shorts, Wall-E interacting with various objects....that was cute, the deleted scenes...interesting because after the scene they explained why the scene was left out); I also enjoyed all the extras on "Into the Wild" (HD DVD).

For DVD, if there was a 2 disc special edition and a single disc movie only edition, I used to buy 2 disc version with more extras. But then, I realized that I was never watching them so I started buying the single disc versions. When I collected Laser Discs, I would always opt for the more expenisve version and some of those were $100 or more. I did like watching stuff like the making of Jurassic Park where the special effects were something new and innovative, or The Nightmare Before Christmas, just because I think the process of stop motion animation is cool. Anything else anymore is just the same old thing. There is hasn't been anything new that I have been interested in. I do however like it when animated movies include shorts or new animation created for the video release. I will watch those, but interviews, audio commentaries and the like are things that I really don't care about.
