Default Speaker upgrade question

I currently have a Denon AVR-2309CI with Polk Monitor 50 fronts, Polk CS1 center, Polk Monitor 30 surrounds and a Velodyne VPR-12 sub. Wondering if I would get a fair bang for the buck improvement by upgrading the speakers to Polk TSi 400 or 500 fronts, Polk CS-20 center, and leaving my surrounds and sub as is?? Comments or experiences with these speakers would be appreciated.

I haven't heard the TSis but speakers make the single largest difference in your quality of sound. What is your budget range?

I was thinking I could get the Tsi 500's for about $400 each and the CS20 for about $300 (BBuy).... so I was planning to spend about $1200+/- and keep my current surrounds and sub. That's about twice as much as my current front Monitor 50's and center CS1 cost about a year ago. I think my Velodyne VPR-12 and Monitor 30 surrounds are OK but I keep thinking fronts and center should be better.

Have you auditioned them at your local BB where you got them priced? And if so...what did you think?

I think you can get a good idea of what to look forward to if you have them audition the speakers for you with a similar receiver to yours.

Yes, they sound great. Just can't compare side by side to my current equipment. I know it is a little goofy to ask others what do think I would like. I was just interested in hearing others opine on this particular line of TSi Polk speakers and maybe how they compare with Polk's higher end equipment.

That's not that much of an upgrade. If you are going to invest the money in new polks, I would go for the RTi line or higher.

There are lots of other speakers out there as well. IMO, you won't hear that much more going from the monitors to the TSi line.

I agree with the upgrade info regarding the RTi, RTia, however with your budget, I probably wouldn't even stay with Polk. For the kind of money you are talking about, you could easily get a noticeably better sounding system.

Since you said you aren't sure, I would get out and do some auditioning and find out what kind of sound you like before you spend any more money.

I made a 700 mile round trip to Dallas to audition different speakers at various places. Selection is limited to Best Buy where I live, so to check them out, you gotta travel! I listened to quite a lot in Dallas with particular attention to all of the Polks, the JBL's and the Klepsch. I kept coming back to Polk. I ended up getting RTi A7 fronts, CSi A6 center, Polk DSW Micropro 1000 1200 watt sub, and will keep my Monitor 30 surrounds for now. I ordered everything from Crutchfield and was quite pleased with the prices and helpful folks on the phone. Saved about $750 by ordering from them. I thought the RTi A7's sounded really amazing!!!

Good job, at least you know you like what you bought by doing those auditions. Crutchfield can be a good place if stuff is on sale.
