Default Speaker Upgrade Help

I have the Polk RM6750 5.1 set and love it, what would be the next best center and R/L fronts ( Polk Brand ) for bedroom that can sit on a shelf, i have looked at the 50 series, But i want to sit on shelf and not the floor. Thanks

What's your budget? I would highly recommend the CS1 center and Monitor 50 floorstanders - for $400. Why would you not like the floorstanders?

Edit: Ah, the ol' bedroom catch. Well, I have heard a few good things about the Monitor 40 bookshelves - if you wish to stick with Polk. However, I think there are other brands you could look at as well - I know BigDaddy likes Fluance, DriverKing does recommend Athena, and I happen to like Energy, too. Let me find some links...

Actually driver king was very helpful with my first set up, he is a very nice guy. i would love the 50 series and cs1 center and i may just go head and get them, i can re-arrange the bedroom it is a fairly good size, i was looking also at the RTi4 series and same center, seen good reviews on them at amazon. My budget is 1000.00 or less. i already have 2 nice floor standers in basement so was going to put rm6750 center and fronts with it then use other rears of the set for my surrounds and upgrade the center and fronts.

Yes, for your bedroom, I would highly recommend the 50s and the CS1. Heck, Amazon right now has the black CS1 at $87 and the Cherry M-50s at $133/ea. The M50s are excellent entry-level speakers.

The RTi line is a bit outdated, Amazon carries them, but they are sold from third-party companies - can you stretch their newest RTiA line? The RTiA1s and 3s? Solid speakers as well - I've only heard the RTi A5 and A7 floorstanders and they were very good, I can only assume the bookshelves are, too! For a bedroom setup, the bookies or the Monitor 50s would more than suit your purposes!

What's in the basement???

These are a little more, but if you're only looking to replace the front 3, you could check out Revel's Concerta offerings:

L/R: Revel Concerta M12 --MSRP $650/pr
C: Revel Concerta C12 -- MSRP $500

You should be able to find these at somewhat lower prices, which would put you around your max of $1000.

No doubt about it, these puppies are in a higher range than the Polk lineups discussed here. Whether or not its worth the money for a bedroom setup is up to you....

Here's a review of this system that you might find useful:

^-------See, now there's a brand I need to learn more about.

But Revel carries weight around here, and if you want to go top of the line for the money, Revel's a good place to start.

Although if you want bookshelves and a center, for $1000, I may start recommending Bowers & Wilkins 600-series line, too...

I personally love the Revels because they sound unobtrusive and are very neutral. After comparing the floorstanding Concertas (F12) to the much more expensive Paradigm Studio 100s, I felt like with the Paradigms I was listening to a very very good speaker, but with the Revels I was listening to a performance. Other speakers will give you more fullness, warmth, and prominent bass, but the Revels are exceptionally even and detailed. Treble is not overbearing and maybe a little too laid-back for some (if you love the horn-loaded Klipsch sound, this may especially be true).

If I had to give an analogy, I would say that the Revels are like a solid-state amplifier compared to the tube-ampish sound of the Paradigms. With the Revels, you get accuracy and detail out the wazoo--the speakers don't mess around with the music. Other speakers may be warmer or brighter, and if you like that sound, they will be a better fit than the Revels. I must admit I have always hated the sound of Klipsch because it's way too harsh and artificial for me--the horn is like nails on a chalkboard to me, but that's not a popular opinion around here.

As for me, I'm saving for a pair of F12s to pair with my new SVS sub.

Check these out from Polk. Try this for a center. How about that! They're a bit bigger than bookshelves but I think for the price and their quality, it's worth it.

thanks for the suggestions, i would like to stick with the polk series, i truly love the polks and prices they offer, in the basement i have 2 KLH floor towers i got 12 years ago which really rock they have 3 6 1/2 speakers and woofers and they sound so good, i left them there for the reason bedroom is smaller , but i might just go with the 50 series and cs center, thanks for the replys and if anyone else has suggestions please feel free to comment

yes.. i did just now tonight, i was going to PM you but dont want to be a bugger lol I like them and the price seems right, i will check into them and then of course ill need help like before you and others on this site have been a lot of help and sometimes people want advice and go on, but i want to sincerely thank you and all others that have put up with my lack of know how. it will either be these or the polk 50 and csi center, then move RM6750 fronts and center you recommended to other towers and reuse surrounds, so now to sub should i use the polk with the set or go with your always suggested sub

You have a good sized budget my friend - go out and listen!!!! There's even a pair of Aerial 10T's for sale on audiogon for $1700.00!!! These speakers cost 10X's as much!!!!

OOPS!!!! I though you were the one that had $4000.00 for a bedroom system. My bad, carry on

You will absolutely want to upgrade your sub with those speakers. The speakers I linked to you are on another level compared to the Monitor 50's and the CS1. They're still great speakers, but those Rti's are on a whole other level sound quality wise. The eD sub should work nicely with those speakers as well.

i figured you would advise me on the sub, i have decided to go with the 50 series and the cs1 center due to price difference, they have good prices at amazon, also going to get your famous sub you love now how to set them up? leave the rears as small and fronts as large or leave all small and sub to what? when i get them ill let you all know, as stated before thanks bunches.

Thanks for the info, how do you like the sound of your speakers? I dont mind spending a little more so that is why i ask, would you have done anything different in your choice with the same budget you had when you bought these? Again thanks
