Get some canned air and blow out the vents. Like anything else, it can get clogged up with dust, and the fan will have to run higher rpm (ie. noisy) to compensate.

Had a tech tell me to use canned air only for when you are dusty out something you have acccess to , i.e a PC that you have opened and can see the mother board. For the PS3 get your shop vac and suck out the dust, instead of blowing it in.

What side do you use the shop-vac on? The air intakes or the back?

don't use an air can, my buddy used air cans, and his PS3 burned out, when we opened it, there was compacted dust on the grills before the vents outlets.

use a vacuum, not an air, like your PS3 manual says.

I've used canned air the entire time of my PS3 and when I opened it, it had almost no dust in it whatsoever.

To each their own I guess.

Also you can stand your PS3 up instead of laying it down if there's no top to where it's stored. Get it above anything that might be behind it. Mine has a few DVDs stored behind it and I have to keep it vertical so it can be taller than the DVDs and breathe.

The main thing are: 1) Suck out the dirt. 2) Make sure it's ventilated.

The manual says ONLY vac. But people used canned air... so it's YOUR choice.

Canned air pushes dirt while the vac sucks.

I personally don't think it really matters, but your best bet is probably using a vac as it collects the dust compared to blowing it around.

I may just been very good at using canned air? lol

I recommend using only a vacum, but if you must use both...use a vacum on one side while blowing air on the other. Repeat this all around the PS3 to cover all vents.

How do you open up the case anyways? My Ps3 is out of warranty now anyways so if it's not a lot of trouble I'd like to open it up and clean it out well.

I always use canned air, but I think I will try the canned air and shop vac method for double the dust busting power!

I would not recommend using a standard vacuum as there is a lot of potential for static electricity. If you must vacuum your PS3, get a special static free vacuum.
