I own it but haven't viewed it yet.

Here's some reviews, though:

As I recall most of the reviews were not that great for the video considering the cost of the set. What bugs me is they released Season 2 on DVD around the same time as the Season 1 blu came out, and no Season 2 blu. Ugh. Plus BBC stuff is so darn expensive. Even the DVDs aren't cheap.

They did the same thing with Torchwood. I hope Season Two comes to BD soon.

Haven't seen it yet myself. Robin of Sherwood spoiled me back in the day. Would love to see a Blu-ray release of that one, from the original film prints. Though it was 16mm, don't know that it would benefit much from the HD upgrade... Anyhoo, I can't see anything topping that version for a loooong time.

It looks fantastic most of the time.

I liked the show a lot... the first episode is a little rough. Watch the first two before deciding if it's for you.

I share your pain. This show has been abandoned on Blu-ray, much like Nip/Tuck and Rescue Me. Damn shame.

I have the British Season 1 set, by the way, and the quality is pretty good most of the time. Not Lost-good, but noticeably better than DVD.

+1 I got the 2 box set for Acorn Media, quality is so so but I was so happy to watch that series once again. They came out in Fall of 2007, it had been since at least the late 80's last time I saw them. Watched it a few times in the past year also. Not a Robin for everyone but it sure was good.

Love Robin of Sherwood. I special ordered a full box set from the UK years ago that was actually R1. They made a limited run of R1 boxes. Still think it's the best interpretation of the Robin Hood legend I've ever seen.

I love it, never get tired of it. It had some influence on the 1991 Prince Of Thieves, introducing magic and such to Robin Hood I believe. It's great that you were able to get years ago, I don't import, I usualy wait for it to be available here in Montreal. Use to watch it everytime it was on PBS back in the 80's.

The music also was pretty special. I was so in shock last time I watched the series back in Octorber. I had forgot that Ray Winston was playing Scarlet in the series. So great to see him now in Indy 4 or Beowulf

Ray Winston is a fantastic actor and one of my faves. Will watch anything with him in it.

It's possibly the only dvd I've imported. I used to watch it on PBS in the 80's as well and had great memories of it. When I discovered the limited R1 pressing of the box set I ordered it immediately. Took a few more years before Acorn released it in R1. I much prefer my packaging to it as well. It's an actual box with a bunch of single disk cases. her's a pic

Yes - it truly suffers from the plague of stasis...like Gilligan's Island, no matter what happens in the episode, by the end, everything must return (pretty much) to the way things were at the beginning of the episode, because so many writers are working on it, stasis must be maintained for continuity.

However, its infuriating to see Robin Hood constantly defeating the Sheriff and Guy of Gisbourne every damn episode, and then running away in triumph, when all Robin has to do is kill both of them to restore justice and end the brutal repression of the people -- but no, we get the "I won't kill you, I'll let you live because I'm not like you...I'll kill all the nameless stuntmen I please, but you, no, to kill you would solve the problems and then there wouldn't be a TV show, so at the end of this season, after we let you go for the umpteenth time after discovering a plot of yours to kill King Richard, we will run away in victory after solving nothing and leap into the air in a freeze-frame like a Mentos ad."

In short, the show sucks.

Well, that's your opinion, but by the end of the last season, they certainly made a major change I will not mention here.

Let me guess...Robin killed one bad guy who will be replaced by another? Sheriff 2.0?

Whatever.

The real Robin Hood I've come to know in film only flinches from taking down the corrupt government when he's overpowered or doesn't have the time because of some impending doom. He doesn't have his adversary's throat at sword-point and then say, "no, I won't do this you dog, I'll let you go...I am not like you...of course, by letting you go, you can keep on being a dog and killing people and harming our king, but I'll feel good about myself and the audience won't have to wory about any muddy morality."

This is a hero? Hey, stop doing the people of Nottingham these favors, because they need someone who'll act.
