PS3, digital Blu-ray

Hey everyone,

Just curious, if you download a blu-ray movie online, and lets say, put it on an external hard drive hooked up to your PS3, can your PS3 recognize the blu-ray format as a digital file? Thank you.

It would no longer be consider a bluray movie. Bluray is the disc technology, if you were to download it would simply be an HD download. That can be done, picture will be almost as good, but the audio would not be as good.

unless of course he's talking about downloading a blu-ray .iso file off the internet and trying to play it in his ps3. Then this would be ILLEGAL

if you're talking about an m2ts file then don't see why not. if you're talking about any video file you download then there's a bit more to it.

and no, the PS3 does not do MKV, if that's what you're getting at.

Hi, if you have your PS-3 networked, you can try a little java program called PS3 Media server. If you follow the instructions, you can play just about any format from your computer on the PS-3, unlike the restrictions you get with Windows Media Player. mkv files work fine and most others too...
