Default Need an expert here... PS3-Bitstream or LPCM?

I know this has been discussed over and over again because I have just spent the last half hour looking at all of the threads that pertain to this topic. I have discovered on thing... If you have a receiver that can decode HD audio some people say set the PS3 to Bitstream and some people say set it to LCPM.

What?!?!?!?!?!?!?

set it to pcm because the ps3 can not bitstream the codecs it can only internally decode them and send the signal via pcm

The PS3 cannot bitstream lossless audio.

Set to PCM unless you want to hear lossy audio.

With no opposition, I will take the two posts above as fact.

I still do not understand the people that are hung up on seeing DTS HD on their receiver's display. This may be adding to my confusion.

Incorrect, the ps3 cannot bitstream lossless audio codecs but it can bitstream.

If your receiver accepts audio over HDMI, then set the PS3 to linear PCM, so it decodes all lossless audio. That's it. The PS3 can't bitstream lossless audio codecs, so it has to do the decoding.

If your PS3 is connected to the receiver via the digital optical cable, then you can only use compressed audio codecs such as Dolby Digital and DTS. In that case set the audio to bitstream, so it will bitstream the lossy signal to your receiver to decode.
