Default Final Fantasy VII remake 'unrealistic,' would take too long to develop

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/20/ki...ld-take-too-l/

Quote:
Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase recently gave what appears to be the final word on the possibility of a FFVII remake during an interview with TechDigest. "If we were to recreate Final Fantasy VII with the same level of graphical detail as you see in Final Fantasy XIII, we'd imagine that that would take as much as three or four times longer than the three and a half years it has taken to put this Final Fantasy together," Kitase explained, "so it's looking pretty unrealistic!"

Ultimately, the chances of a remade FFVII getting developed are slim, but not non-existent. "If it were possible that we had all the right facilities and the right environment to be able to make and prepare a Final Fantasy VII remake within a year, we'd very much like a go at it," Kitase said. So, there you have it. If you want to see Cloud Strife in HD, all you have to do is recruit and bankroll a gargantuan Square Enix development team. Piece of cake!

A remake is very possible but it won't be exactly the same as the classic version regarding the storyline

well, he did say that they want to do it, but just need resources..
who knows..if FF13, 14, and versus 13 do really well, maybe then they could do it.

my friend and I have a theory though..and I bet some people there have thought of the same too.

its that they already have it in the works..but are waiting to release 13 and versus 1st because they want to release a new FF on the PS3 before releasing a remake..and the reason they have it under tight wraps is because square doesn't want it to steal away or affect sales of 13 and versus just yet..anyways..one can just dream

I'm not sure why everyone is so agog over a remake of FF7, to be honest. Sure, it has one of the better storylines in the FF series, but frankly the characterization was relatively ham-handed, and the gameplay is pretty dated.

I'd just as soon Square-Enix impress us all with new content than retread a game which, while great for its time, has not weathered the years all that well.

Give me FF13 Versus and Kingdom Hearts 3 before a FF7 remake, please and thank you.

Agreed, I don't get why that out of all the Final Fantasies, why do everyone want 7 to be remade again?

It was a good game, I give it that but Square-Enix has been milking 7 with all it's spin-off games and movie for so long that i'm tired of it.

They need to focus on releasing new games instead of remaking them.

Remake or not, don't really care. I just want them to make a great game.

Which they haven't, lately.

I personally don't care if they remake FF VII or not. I enjoy the original, lego block graphics and all. And VII isn't even my favorite FF. I'll take the SNES games or IX any day of the week. That being said, it's just my opinion and I realize a lot of people want to see a graphical enhancement of VII.

The funny thing is that he said it would take over ten years to develop a remake to FF VII. So does that mean that XIII is only a third of the game VII is? Maybe less, since remaking VII wouldn't even require writing a story or creating characters. I've read that XIII is linear as hell, with no towns, no map and very little side questing. I haven't played it yet, but I'm worried.

Also, if the ten years thing is true, does that mean that all new Final Fantasy games are going to be linear crap. Are we never going to see towns or world maps again? Something just doesn't smell right here.

he's being coy by giving an unrealistic time window...

this game has been worked on for quite some time, but SE hasn't put forth a whole lot of their development team at any one point...

when this game is released in HD, it'll be obvious that this took longer than a year to accomplish...

Seriously would prefer this to XIII. I think it will be remade for PS4 if anything though. It's too late and Square have got too much on their schedule to do a proper remake at production team 1 or 2.

I hear concept has started on FFXV but they aren't committed to a console yet. It will probably wind up being next gen given the architectural differences this gen and the difficulty they found in making a decent 360 port.

If people want FFVII-R, they should be looking at FFvXIII anyway, it is the closest thing we are going to get to an PS1 style FF.

I've been trying to get interested in this game.

I've read great reviews.

I bought it as a PC game many years ago but couldn't get it. Now, I bought it for PS3/PSP and I'm trying again to play it enough to see what it's about.

I love the 12-16 years claim to remake FF7.

Yah. Sure. What a joke.

I don't understand why they can't see how many people bought FF7 again when it hit PSN as a sign that at LEAST that many people would buy a remake. I am certain it'd be massively profitable.
