i just purchased the the reciever and set everything up i hooked my PS3,XBOX,DIgital Cable Box to HDMI and my Wii to the analog inputs.my speakers are 2 R50's as a front 2 R30's as a soround and a Polk PSW12 as my subwoofer my center CSR is on the way now from crutchfield im currently using some center channel speaker from my old onkyo HTiB.so far the set up wnet smoothly i used the calibration mic audyssey or something like that the results are Subwoofer=Yes Fronts=Fullband Center=120Hz Surround=40Hz and LPF or LFE 100Hz Double Bass=ON so thats the results of the audyssey so my question is did i do everything right because this is my first time having a good reciever is there any other set up that i can use besides the one that i have right now?and on the back of my subwoofer what should i put? its on 90Hz right now and the volume is on half way.and on the input assign i put everything to HDMI should i?and last question is how do i know if im getting the DTS MASTER and DOLBY TRUE HD?if im using a PS3 as my blu player.thanks

In order to properly calibrate your speakers I suggest you use a spl meter. You get one at radio shack for about 50 bucks. Also look over the audessy thread over at avsforum.com. There you'll find the do's and don't on tweaking audessey. Trust me it's a lengthy but well worth it read.
As far as the ps3 and hd audio is concerned. Under the bd setting set your audio to linear pcm. Your reciever will not show up TrueHD or DTS-MA but, it will show multichannel. Your ps3 is basically decoding the track and sending it to your player instead of having your receiver do the decoding. In my personal experience a stand-alone BD player that sends audio through bitstream and letting your receiver do the decoding sounds more dynamic/better. But, some say there is no difference. I'll let you decide. |

You've not mentioned what speaker setup you have- Polk R50's?
Typically, a good place to start is to put all speakers to small, not to large/fullband. Crossover set to 80hz if they're decent-sized bookshelf speakers or floorstanders, 120hz if they're satellites. Set your sub's LFE dial all the way up. Set the LPF of LFE either to 80 or 120hz depending on your crossover levels. Set your PS3 to output as Linear PCM. |
