How are these for the settings for my speakers
Fronts: 120 hz Centre: 60 hz Rears: 50 hz Sub: 100 hz. Are they correct for a small to mid sized room, right cross over levels? It's just I had to reset my onkyo and didn't note down my old settings, cant remember what they were/ |

Polk Audio Bronze set, 5.1 Polk Monitor Audio BR6's for towers, BR2's for Rears, BRLCR for centre and BRW10 for sub.
http://www.monitoraudio.co.uk/products/bronze-br My auddesy setup always sets the majority to full band, which I'm certain is wrong. |

I would personally set them all at either 80 or 100 Hz, and everything to small. Below 80 puts a big strain on the receiver when it's called on to produce stuff that low, and above 100 means you'll probably be able to tell where the subwoofer is located by listening to it. You can sometimes get away with going as high as 120 Hz, IF the sub is in the front of the room.
On a side note, I wonder if it will eventually damage your receiver using 4 ohm speakers on it (BR6s). It's usually a good idea to have a separate amp when your speakers have such a low impedance rating. |

Oh and my Onkyo, a European model allows you to pick an output rating of 4 or 6 ohms, so I set it to 4, thus safely under powering speakers. I recall being told before this would be fine, and it was better to under power the speakers. but yeah, what settings should I set the hertz at? Last edited by Automission; 05-26-2009 at 12:32 PM. |

In any case, the 50 and 60 Hz settings are too low, and the 120 Hz setting is too high IMO. Last edited by Steve; 05-26-2009 at 01:36 PM. |

I wasn't even aware that the UK 606 had that option. If so, then you're fine. As far as the crossover settings, I don't see their specs on the site, but I would think 80hz all the way around with 120hz as far as the LPF of LFE.
The fronts can probably go quite a bit lower than that, but that takes the bite off of the receiver and puts it on the sub's amp. I would try that and see how you like the sound. Otherwise, look up the speakers specs (should be on the included manuals) and go between 10-20hz higher than the crossover to allow a nice rolloff. The surrounds may not have 80hz capable speakers, but I would think that anything from Monitor Audio would be shooting for that level. |

good post aramis
id go 80hz across the board....sub included if something outputs at say 100hz then your sub AND reg speakers are going which means anything from 80hz to 120hz = 'double power' as subs AND reg speakers are outputting the exact same sound sound. 80hz across the board is different. as the example abive anything from 80hz-120hz will come from ONLY THE reg speakers....no sub anything below 80hz = all sub, no reg speakers |

Hey,
Don't mean to gatecrash the thread...but while you're on the subject of Ohms, can i ask: I have a european Onkyo 805, which like Automissions has a 4-6 Ohm option. The speakers i use are JBL's which, according to the manuals, all have a nominal impendence of 8 Ohms. So should i leave my 805 set to 6 Ohms...have i got this right?... I've lurked on this site for ages now, and have learned a lot...but am still learning ![]() Cheers, Beerman... |

+1. I see no reason that it'd be different on the Euro model. Just leave it on 6ohm. It's "6ohm and above".
