blu ray releases--delay in Canada? - Blu-ray Forum

does any one why here in canada we get new releases late not on the actual release date.

Maybe it is your location ,I have always been able to get the new releases on time at Future Shop and Amazon.ca

My guess would be due to distribution rights and a different studio (ie. Alliance) handling the Canadian release as opposed to it's distributor (usually the studio itself) in the US.

I'm guessing it has to do with most releases coming from the US and not enough copies to go around between the 2 countries. Zack & Miri and Pride & Glory are the latest I've encountered that were delayed in Canada.

I've seen Zak and Miky in HMV this week. I also bought My Name is Bruce at HMV, the only store that seem to have got it..

Uh I assume you mean on DVD? It's been out for a week and a half on DVD, BD on Tuesday the 17th.

Depends where you live I guess... I've noticed Futureshop/Best Buy usually have new releases on time, Walmart sometimes takes a few days.

Nope on bluray last tuesday at HMV here in Repentigny and i just grabbed a copy of My Name is Bruce (nice little comic btw) on Blu-ray today...

Hmm, maybe it's an Ontario delay? I'm still hoping somewhere gets it this weekend early cause I'm off Monday but not holding my breath, that's cool but it hasn't arrived in Toronto yet.

Maybe it just depends on where you are in Canada and the store you are shopping at. Because I know that my Futureshop here always gets the titles on there release dates.

USUALLY we get everything, but honestly Zack and Miri was delayed all over the place and on backorder, there's a whole thread about it. Seems like a rare case.

When there has been a delay in release which isn't often, its due to what someone mentioned earlier, the distributor, which is Alliance in Canada. On the other hand Sin City has been available in Canada for at least a month in Canada but I don't believe it has been released in the U.S.A. yet.

Alliance is delaying a few new relese titles here and there, including Zack and Miri, Appaloosa, and Pride & Glory. This happened often with new release DVDs waaay back, so eventually it will be a flawless system where Canada gets them on the same day as the US. But right now, expect to see more titles get delayed. As for HMV having Zack & Miri Blu already, they just put it on store shelves early, probably as soon as they received stock thinking that it should be out alongside the DVD.

Alliance is doing a great job with issuing catalogue titles that are not available in other territories. Not only that, but the release of A History of Violence in Canada has completely different/better cover art that the US release. I hope to see more of that too.

Yeah that is the problem it seems to be out of stock everywhere!
