With my system (Yamaha RX-V795 receiver, JBL L3 loudspeakers, Velodyne 1215x subwoofer) and my ears, the S350/BX1 sounds as good as any CD player I've used before. If someone's audio system consisted of ultra-hi end gear, and they had a pair of 'golden ears', then a stand-alone CD player (such as the Meridian 508-24 for $3500 or the Mark Levinson No.390S for $6700) would probably deliver better audio quality. Bottom line is the quality of your audio system and how critical your ears are. |

I have used Sony DVD players and my Sony BDP-S350 for CD playback for years (without a standalong CD player, there's one less component in my system to keep it streamlined and simple). As far as the BDP-S350 is concerned, the sound quality is as good as any standalone unit I have ever used. One thing to note. I do miss the rather "instant playback" of CDs with a standalone CD player. The 350 will still have several seconds of "load" time before the disc begins playing.
Interestingly, it will make my TV display a rather pleasant graphic - sort of like distant, blurred lights - along with a timer and progress bar for the current song being played. I usually just keep the TV off when playing CDs, though. No sense in running the TV to listen to music only - although, at times, it adds a nice ambiance to a darkened room. |

I have Panasonic BDP-30 and it plays CD's fine. But let me just say it's no match for my 15 year old Marantz CD-67mk2KI. I guess it depends how you will be listening to your music. If it's for casual listening or for turning up to party levels, it will work a treat!
The blu player sounds less musical. A lot brighter and more forward. |
