Default LG tvs

I haven't heard much about the 52LG60 or the 52LG70. Ive checked them out at bb but I thought they looked just as nice as the samsungs. So I was wondering if anyone that has one would recommend them?

Well I work at Magnolia Home Theatre, I think that their LCD's are Mediocre at best, but I would definitley, DEFINTILEY, STAY AWAY FROM THEIR PLASMA LINE. Horrible Black Levels, and Im not going to get all technical, But I have not seen so many returns on Plasmas, like the LG Returns. That should tell you something, Im not going to lie, the new Apartment Complex is giving us a Free LG 1080p LCD, and I am having them wall mount it in the bedroom. Not bad, but Im not going to ever put away my Sammy Plasma, its sweet, hope i gave you some feed back...I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND LG PLASMAs, Go with Samsung, for the Price, then Go to Panasonic, if you are willing to put a little bit more down, and if Money is not a questions, Defitinely go with KURO, by Pioneer/Pioneer Elite.

The new LG stuff hasn't even arrived at Magnolia. The PG60 line of plasmas is awesome. Why is everyone brainwashed? Yes, Pioneer and Panasonic are good, but take a look at these for the hell of it and base your own decision. Samsung plasmas blow in my opinion, surprised someone that "works at Magnolia" would even own one.

I also work at best buy and i rock a samsung plasma, see sig. As you can see Ive got some nice goodies. I disagree with you about samsung plasmas being crap. I woulda loved a pioneer but couldnt afford it, Panasonic woulda been good too but sammy had the best deal. It looks amazing now I cant wait to see it after I get the ole Cali

Well, I wouldn't say that LG LCD's are crap, but they certainly aren't the best. I have a 1080p 42" LG and its a pretty good tv. Has a good picture, but only after adjustments. Out of the box it definitely won't blow your mind, and adjusting it can be a bit of pain. Black levels are just OK. Not bad by any means, but after about 7 or 8 months I needed more. Aside from wanting a bigger tv I wanted deeper blacks since I'm a big movie fanatic. The LG became my bedroom tv and I got a Panasonic 50" plasma for the living. Its only 768p, but there is no noticeable difference in sharpness even when right up on the screen. The blacks are MUCH deeper, and I'm not talking about looking at the bars at the top and bottom. I'm talking about watching 2001 Space Odyssey seeing black images in the center of the screen....makes the bars look grey! Colors pop MUCH more than the LG and I don't regret one bit going from LCD to plasma. Image retention does annoy me a bit, but I've gotten used to it. For the money its a no brainer. Since I use my tv as a computer monitor also I would prefer LCD...probably an LED backlit Samsung or Sony, but at those prices it doesn't make sense. You can get a 50" Panasonic plasma for $1200-$1300 on a regular basis. Sears always has them on sale, and you can even get 1080p for $1500 on Amazon. I've heard nothing good about past LG plasmas, but if you check out AVSforum there are a lot of good comments about the new LG's, particularly the PG60. The PG50 isn't special though from what people are saying. Apparently LG is using different panels for each of those models which is kind of odd to me since they're the same series differing only in size. The PG60 may be a good choice in the 60" range since it definitely has a price advantage, and may be comparable to Samsung and Panasonic offerings, but I have my doubts. I would like to compare in person, but like I said, check the AVSforum comments. I would definitely stay away from the the 50" LG though, and CNET just reviewed the PG20 series which is apparently crap. My 2 cents...OK maybe 5 cents. Peace.

I have spent almost six months researching plasma displays and have spent countless hours reading posts off of AVSFORUM.com from professional calibrators, installers and AV enthusiasts. I've also spent many hours visiting home theater stores viewing many different sets. I definitely agree with this post and anyone who disagrees needs to seriously do their homework.

LG used to be known by the brand name of Goldstar.

That doesn;t mean you can't re-invent yourself and improve though.

I check out the Toshiba XF550U line today. They come in either 40", 46" and 52". I compared them today with some Samsungs (650 & 750) and LGs (Scarlet) LCDs. The Toshibas looked great. I felt based on my eyeballs the 52XF550U looked just as good, if not better than the A750. That is just my opinion though.

Ultimately your eyes are the judge and if the 52LG70 & 60 version looked good then they're the ticket. Personally I looked at the 52LG70 and I also really liked the picture and almost bought it, I still might. I'll see if I can swing a good deal on a Pioneer 6020FD first.

Good Luck in whatever you decide to purchase.

They are *still* Goldstar.

Lucky Goldstar to be exact.

"Life's Good" is a slogan, not the brand.

That said I thought the performance was below par for the price.

Panasonic and Pioneer for plasma. Sony & Samsung for LCD.

I have a 42lg60. he picture is amazing. The sound is the best sound you can get on a LCD or plasma. Even though that doesn't matter to most since they use surround sound. I had a 42in sharp, then 40in Samsung, now 42in LG. This is by far the best in all around quality. You would not be disappointed at all with an LG LCD. I have become an LG fan. I don't think I will ever switch to another company.
