Default Thoughts on Polk Micropro 1000 (or other subs $500 or less)

I'm upgrading my setup, going from a 5.1 $300 set of Sony's to about a $2000 7.1 rig. Haven't finallized, but forerunners are Definitive Technology ProMonitor 1000's and Klipsch RSX-5's. Yes, they are satelites. Can't do anything about that. Obviously I'm going to need a quality sub to round out the audio spectrum. One that has jumped out at me is Polk's Micropro 1000 (8", 1200W RMS). Room is L-shaped at about 16'x16' for the main part of the room with an 8'x10' Entry, with 12' ceilings. I need a sub that will deliver clean, tight bass at low to moderately high volumes. Don't usually crank the volume too much, I've lost enough hearing as it is. Plan on using it about 75% movies, 25% music, but needs to sound equally good. I need some feedback on the Polk, or if you have any alternative that fit my needs and price range, let me hear'em.

Look other places. Elemental Designs, SVS, HSU...so many better subs for less=better boom for the dollar!

Forgot to mention, this is going in my living room. I don't have a room to call a dedicated home theater. Thus, it has to be wife firendly (can't be huge or fugly). That's why I'm stuck with satelites in the first place. I'll check those companies out, but from little I've seen, the subs in my price range look to be a bit too industrial looking to make the cut.

But thanks for the suggestions.

Extend the budget and get a Martin Logan Dynamo, and blame the extra $100 or so on your wife..... tell her it costs more to get a smaller sub that will perform as well as a large cumbersome one

Agreed. I've seen some very nice looking subs that are well, I don't have one yet, I'm too young, but that other users say are more WAF friendly.

Default For 49 dollars more I'd get the Outlaw 12" sub

Outlaw Audio makes great subwoofers and they are selling their 12" sub with free shipping for $549 http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/lfm1plus.html

I've got a Hsu VTF2, and yeah it is big, bulky, takes up a lot of room, the manual says use it as a coffee table, but WOW, I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm not worried about the asthethics of the subwoofer, more the sound and feel of it. If you are truly worried about the look of it, find an acoustically clear piece of cloth and throw it over it, and make it more a table, and use it to put non breakable things on.

Ok, I've finally got to ask- do you work for Outlaw? Are you a shill for them or something? I see all your posts revolving around their products. Not saying they're bad products, as I have never owned them... but wow.
