Default Why does Sony deprioritize Europe?

Hi there, I was supposed to have my Pirates of the Caribbean Blu movis shipped to me the other day - but release date has been postponed.

While I do not know, if this is a postponed release the States too, but this goes for many movies!

The list is unending of the blu movie inventory in the States, while we have NOTHING.
and when will the bloody "The devil wears prada" arrive here?

The majority of the users in the leading danish gaming sites support HD-DVD, and HD-DVD dosent even support games! Why? - Because Blu in Denmark and Europe is overprized, the selection of movies is ****ed, and rumour has it - HD-DVD will take over Denmark soon enough.

Not only did we get a bucked up cheap version of the ps3, which we had to pay much much more for, than the people in the US - but the selection of movies is just sad):

While many US releases can be imported, it is likely to cost us 40 USD for 1 import in fee's and initial price.

Can anyone tell me why Sony does not take the battle up with HD-DVD in europe for real?

And most importantly for me (: - Does anyone know a store in Denmark that imports those damn US releases?

I don't know about Denmark, but in the UK there are more Blu-ray movies being released than HD-DVD movies. Any weakness in the release schedule can be attributed more to Warner and Fox than Sony.

Like you, though, I don't understand some things, e.g. Enter The Dragon is available on HD-DVD here, and is available on both formats in the US. Why couldn't they release it on Blu-ray here at the same time as in the US, I just don't understand the delay. However this is down to Warner, not Sony, and is just one example.

I don't understand what Pirates being delayed has to do with Sony but whatever.

For some reason people think Blu-ray=Sony, when in actuality Blu-ray=BDA as in Blu-ray Disc association. There are tons of companies that make up the BDA. Sony is putting out killer encodes, they have a top-notch BD player for $600, that happens to play video games, what more do you want from Sony? They have been the largest proponent for BD, maybe its time to start screaming at some of the other companies involved?

Pirates of the Caribbean = Buena Vista Home Entertainment/Disney. Not Sony.

Seriously. This is becoming increasing HD-DVD zealot FUD fodder: "Where's Fox? Why'd they pull back all those titles?" etc.

yah, sorry about that one - let my ignorance take over once again -_-'

Still, I think Sony should be quite able to push to companies like Disney and say, hey - give them their damn movies.

While I am thankful for the development in Blu done by sony, and the HD-age we are in, it justs - its so frustrating the you get everything in the states, and we have to wait - also, I read that because EU releases often have to feature multiple languages on those smaller BDs - lesser audioencodings are on our discs in comparison to the american ones - while we in fact just want the freakin english one with no bloody subtitles.

I'm still not sure what the holdup with Pirates is in Europe, someone on the forum here said they got a copy from Play.com (UK) about a week before they should have.

It's only fodder if it can be tied to some positive change for HD DVD. As we know, it is quite the opposite.

Fox pushed for BD+, and are now determined to show they were right. And, as such that makes Fox on HD DVD more and more remote with time.

My play UK copy arrived today, but only for DMC. the delay was somthing to do with a disc issue. Dont know anything past that.

Europe is lowest priority for every major hardware release

Why?

Because logistically it's like dealing with the US, if the US were a new country every state. It's an expensive and royal pain in the ass legally. Add to this the fact that different companies own movies/games for those small territories doubles/triples the workload.

That's why.
