Default Dilemma

I bought Resistance 2 when it was first released and was about to finish the game about a week ago. I played for a good 2 hours, shut down the ps3 to eat supper, then returned and booted up the game. The ps3 doesn't read the game, so I eject the game and notice that there is a slit right near the center of the disk (bout half of an inch).

I figure it was just a random occurrence and buy another R2 the next day. I play for about 4 days and then bam, deja vu. The exact same issue happens again. The cut is in the exact same location on the new disc.

I played Call of Duty in the mean time to see if it was a problem with the disc or my ps3. There have been no other issues with any of my other games besides R2. I have a LE MGS4 ps3.

Should I rent from Gamefly or just buy another R2 disc?

I've spent $120 on R2 already !!! The game is solid but my first platinum trophy looks like its gonna have to wait.

I would contact customer services to see if you can get a replacement from them for free (or at most a small fee) rather than buying another copy of the game. Do other games have the same marking on the disc (may not be damage)? It seems strange that you could buy 2 copies of the game at different times and both be damaged in exactly the same way!?

Well I've been doing some research online and it may actually be the cases that are causing the problem. I treat my games like babies and I really hope this doesn't happen again.
