Default Finally getting a new TV . . .

So I figured I'd share this with you guys. I currently have a Samsung HLS-6187w DLP. Since the day I got it its had a small spot in the middle of the screen that looks like someone who was eating potato chips touched their finger on the back of the screen. It was never THAT big of a deal, so I never said anything about it, but I have the Best Buy service plan, so I figured it if ever bothered me I'd call it in.

After having the TV for about a year and nine months, I started getting a flicker in the upper left hand corner. Usually turning the TV off and back on would fix the flicker. After it started getting worse I called in for service. The guy came out and replaced the light engine . . . flicker was still there, spot was still there. So, the guy ordered a replacement screen. Guy comes out again after waiting a few weeks to get the screen. Screen is replaced, spot is still there, and now there's a defect in the screen, so there's a very noticeable line that goes down the left side of the screen. During this process the glossy black bezel around the screen gets scratched to hell. Call in again, guy comes out, orders new screen, orders new bezel, new light engine (again) and new main board. This whole time we're trying to get them to just exchange the TV since the cost of repair exceeds its value, but they insist on repairing it. Guy comes out, replaces the light engine, spot is gone. He opens up the new bezel, which apparently was the only one they could find in the country and the post that the speaker attaches to is broken off. So, this was the straw that broke the camel's back. Ironically, no sound has ever come out of the TV speakers and I couldn't care less if they were there or not, but they finally agree to swap out the TV.

So, we go to Best Buy. The most comparable set is the 65" Mitsu Diamond series DLP (WD-65-835). Sweet, size upgrade. So we order that, it's scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. We get a call from Best Buy today expecting it to be the time frame for delivery. Well, of course not. They're calling to say that the TV is no longer carried (which just happened in the last few weeks . . . my wife works at Best Buy and checked to make sure it was available a few weeks ago when we were pretty sure the TV would end up getting swapped). So they want to offer us a 65" Sharp LCD that would require us paying $200. I'm not the biggest fan of Sharp, and I read enough negatives about the set that we decided to find another option.

So . . . all that ends up with us getting the Mitsubishi WD-73835, 73" DLP. It's the only time I've been hesitant with getting a bigger set. The viewing distance is fine, but I'm worried it will sit too high on the stand I've been using for the 61". We had a Mitsu 73" rear projection (CRT), which was awesome except it was a little too tall. But . . . I'm pretty sure it will be fine, and while I'm disappointed I'm not getting the new set tomorrow as planned, it'll be nice to have a huge screen back in the living room.

That was a really long post. Sorry
