Default Finally got my new HT in!

https://www.blu-ray.com/community/ga...member=Rike255

What do you guys think? I'm looking for any suggestions!

I was thinking of buying some of those LED light strips for the back of the TV like some people have here. Is that a good idea?

Looks very nice. That TV stand gives the impression that it's super tall but looking at the light switches I have been fooled.

Thanks! When I sit on my couch my eye level is centered at about 3 inches from the bottom of the screen. I think that may be a touch too high although I'm not too sure.

Nice system!

I would recommend moving your front speakers farther away from the wall (at least 1 ft away) if they are rear ported. Rear ported speakers will sound better if there is some free room behind the rear port.

Also before getting leds, I would suggest getting a center channel first and then surrounds after that. I think this should be the order of priority. The LEDs are a nice to have but consider them more as the icing on the cake. It will improve your experience but you will get more satisfaction by completing your surround setup than by buying leds.

What ever is comfortable for you :-) I have a buddy who's TV is mounted eye level when I stand in front of it is it's ~5'7" from the floor and I don't care for it but he likes it

You can see some pics of the IKEA Dioder lights in my gallery, I like them very much. Also the speakers are no longer on those "stands" and sound much better...although they are being replaced as soon as UPS shows up

I have a center channel, but it's a HTIB speaker and very low quality. I found that letting the two fronts handle the center channel it actually sounds much better, until I get a nice new center that is.
I also have 2 Sony cube speakers for surround. I would have shown them in the pics but my couch is covered in junk right now so I need to clean it up before taking pics.
Thanks for the input guys!

I'll concentrate on a center channel before looking into LED lighting.

That tv stand does sit up higher than most. Not a big deal if what you have viewing works for you. My bedroom tv isn't at eye level either. I had my blu-ray player wall mounted and speaker bar below it so it was higher up even more than now as of about a month or 2 ago. Looks great overall.

Wow you have a nice HT. From where I sit I can't notice any picture quality/brightness difference when I stand up so I'm not too worried about it being higher up. As long as my neck doesn't tilt back and get sore it's all good

Nice set-up, but you have to invest in a CSi model for your center channel. You really are missing out on over 50% of what would be improved sound from your set-up. Also, be careful with the center channel if it is from a HTiB if you do use it, as most of those speakers seem to be rated for 4 ohms, and your receiver is not built to power 4 ohm speakers. I would hate to see that 805 get fried! Nice looking set-up overall though......

Ya I won't be plugging in my HTIB cube speaker. It's an 8 ohm, but sounds absolutely terrible...my TV speakers are better quality haha.

Hopefully I can get a center channel soon.

The speakers do have rear ports. Does it make a pretty big difference if I move them up? My front left speaker is kinda on the edge of the wall into a hallway so moving it up could put it in an awkward position. Right now they're about 2 inches from the wall.

My only recommendation for you really would be to get a power conditioner... worth the investment to protect your equipment.

Any suggestions on which one to get? I have a niceish surge protector ($70) which I know doesn't protect against everything that a conditioner will (ie: wear and tear), is it worth the extra $$$ to upgrade?

I see you're in Canada like me. Tiger Direct has a sale on the APC H10 right now, $110, which is an awesome price, I love mine. Here's a link.

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...031&CatId=4715

it will do much better than most surge protectors, and will help with other things like line noise etc.

That seems a bit close. I would recommend to experiment with the distance from the wall behind the speakers by putting them the closest to the wall you can and then really far from the wall. Listen in both positions and you should see a difference between the two positions. Then with that in mind you can find the best distance for the speakers by moving them a little bit at a time and comparing the sound you get. Eventually you will find the best position.

If you've got some restriction like you mentioned, you can compromise for a less ideal position but it's nice to know what you're missing (or not).

For some theoretical information on ported speaker refer to this article on wikipedia. From that article:

Enclosures with a rear facing port mask these effects to some extent, but they are not designed to be placed directly against a wall. They require some free space around the port so they can perform as intended. Poor room placement can significantly reduce the performance of this type of loudspeaker.

Ok I'll try your experiment. Good idea.

The ports on the back of my speaker have something called "Arc Port" which is basically a funnel that directs the air parallel to the wall rather than shoot it into the wall. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not. Either way I'll give it a try.
