Arrow I'm finally doing it

Going to re-arrange everything alphabetically and blu-rays first then DVDs, this should take awhile. Anyone else have to do this?

I did this the other day, the DVD's where just so it would make the lists easier for my Ebay auctions as I am selling just about all but around 30 standards, just until they come out on Blu, but I've already sold the first few hundred and getting ready for the next batch. My blu's however are always in alphabetical as I am very uptight about the presentation of my blu's and their uniformity.

I arrange by studio. Case uniformity and still very easy to find the movie.

Well at first I just mixed and matched according to a system that works in my brain but now I think it would just be best to keep them all alphabetically. Blu-Rays, the DVDs, then UMDs and TV seasons. Probably going to take me an hour or two, hopefully it will be worth it.

That's a pretty cool method. I've heard of that way before but couldn't quite visualize how it'd work out. With a lot of Blus, I could see that working quite nicely. I don't have the library to support such a method at this time.

I'm assuming it goes: studio -> series by date released -> then title alphabetically. That's just an assumption, though.

Finished the blu-rays, which look SO cool now that there's no DVDs inbetween them. Now for the DVDs, which should take much longer.

When I first saw the subject of this thread, the first thing that hopped into my mind, I really can't post. *LOL*

Also, I arrange mine autobiographically.

I used to have mine sorted alphabetically (with DVDs and BDs separate, and concerts, documentaries, horror movies, and Julia Roberts movies separate).

Now I broke all my DVDs down into these categories:

Western
Horror
Julia Roberts
War
Animated
Everything else (comedy/drama, whatever)

Each of those is then sorted in order of theatrical release date.

I had this crazy idea that sorting alphabetically didn't really offer any real benefit, since my movies aren't exactly hard to locate. By putting them in some sort of chronological order, it at least offers the nice benefit of seeing how movies "evolved" over time.

The only exception is war movies, which are sorted based on the chronological order of the wars (so Apocalypse Now would come after Saving Private Ryan, even though it's an older movie).

with about 1,200 DVDs now..... and no shelves etc.... it's tough to find them.... They used to be in a pretty decent order (westerns together, Terminator 1,2,3 together, classics, animation, music, bonds, etc) but since moving, I boxed them up, and they're all out of whack, and I just haven't gotten around to putting them in any sort of order..... so sometimes I say.... "HEY, I THINK I'LL WATCH THE BIG LEBOWSKI" and before I even find it, I pass by "The Jerk" and decide to watch it instead (that was a true occurrence from a few nights ago )

As Travis Bickle would say..... one of these days I'm gonna get organezized

P.S.

When it comes to "I'm finally doing it" I just finished my taxes........ nothing like waiting to the last minute to cut that check

Either you are a big Julia Roberts fan or you have a very odd filing system. So does Flatliners go in the Roberts section or the Horror section? What about Chrlotte's Web ?

I have my blu-rays alphabetical order. I currently have 65 blus with 5 more on the way.

As for DVD's they are on the rack below my blus (not in alphabetical order). In all I have maybe a little over 100 movies, however I have over 300 CD's that are not alphabetical order.

I've always kept them alphabetically. When I go to get a movie I want to know exactly where it is. I never remember what studio released a movie so I would find myself having to think when I grab a movie and I don't like to think.

mine have been alphabetized since i started buying movies.

my blu's are @ the end of my racks though and that's only b/c that collection is going to continue to grow, i don't plan on buying a lot of standard dvd's any longer but also don't plan on replacing a lot of them either....only about a dozen or so when they are finally released on blu....ie: star wars, indy, lord of the rings, jurassic park, and gladiator.

I think I would hate to select a movie if I had to look through your filing system to do so! I totally see how/why you do it that way, but that just wouldn't work for me.

It's cool to see all these methods. There are really a ton of ways one could 'organize' their collection.

I keep the blu ones together and I keep the taller ones together..

the blu ones are split into two shelves...adults on top shelf, kids on bottom shelf.
