Red face Lossless Audio from Samsung BDP-1500?

How do I get Lossless audio from this setup???? My dad has a Samsung BDP-1500 player hooked up via HDMI to a pioneer Elite VSX-80TXV reciever and a 5.1 setup. He also has an optical cable running from the reciever to the Samsung player. Is he getting the Lossless audio from the blu ray discs? I know that optical cables wont allow the lossless tracks to play but the Samsung player description says it transmits the lossless audio signal and video signal over the same cable. So is the optical cable an uneccesary connection? Also The recievers specs doesnt say it supports HD-audio, does that just mean it cant decode the format itself? If the player decodes it and sends it to the reciever will it play the lossless tracks or just the standard DD or DTS? The samsung player doesnt have multichannel analog outputs so hooked up via the single HDMI cable appears to be the only option. PLEASE HELP!!!!

unfortunately the Elite 80 does not process hdmi audio.

He would be able to use Multichannel Analog connections. But the Samsung BD player does not decode, and only has stereo (2.0) analog outputs.

So in the end, optical is probably his best choice, but no Lossless audio.

He would either need:

A. New player that decodes with multichannel analog output
B. New HDMI v1.3 Receiver
C. Use optical, and just enjoy what he has

...option B, or C would be my choice.

hey i have the same samsung blu-ray player. Although i don't have a 5.1 amp yet i was pretty sure that the player would decode the audio and send it over hdmi.

It will, the original posters problem is that his receiver cannot accept HDMI audio.

The last I saw, the BD-P1500 decodes TrueHD but not dts-MA.
