Default Receiver with Sony BDP-350?

I hear everytime that anyone with a ps3 as blu-ray only needs a receiver with Hdmi pass through since the Ps3 does all the decoding. What about the Sony BDP-350? It says in the spec sheet it decodes true-HD, does that mean that I only need pass through?

I would recommend an AVR with decoding abilities. The S350 does not decode DTS HD-MA but does bitstream it. If you get an AVR that decodes, you'll be able to take advantage of all the HD audio codecs out there.

I am an owner of the PS3 (60GB) and recently bought a new Pioneer Kuro to be my "main" Home Theatre, the old Toshiba DLP went to the basement, so the PS3 went with it. Because I wanted to take advantage of the True HD receiver I bought, and the PS3 did all the decoding, I went out and bought the Sony BDP-S350 for the Kuro, and its flawless.

My setup Is as follows:
Main Setup:
TV - Pioneer Kuro 5020
Receiver - Yamaha HTR-6160 (its great does it all)
Speakers - Bose Acoustimass 6 Series
Blu Ray Player - Sony BDP-S350
Cable - Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD PVR

Second setup:
TV - Toshiba DLP HM5284
Receiver - Yamaha HTR-5840S
Speakers - Looking for something cheap
Blu Ray Player - Sony Playstation 3 60GB
Cable - Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250HD

Back to your question about Receivers, The Yamaha HTR-6160 or RXV-663 has plenty enough features, all you do is set the S350 to "direct" and the receiver will take care of it, and give you amazing "TRUEHD" sound. Played the movie 300 the other night, unbelievable. Blew me away....I used to think Blu-Ray movies were all about "picture" but The sound on blu-rays is AMAZING!!!!

If you went with the Sony S550 and used the muti channel analog to the receiver (assuming it has multi channel analog inputs) you would get true HD. Correct?

Yes. Using the 550 as the decoder, you would get TrueHD and DTS HD-MA. But he already has the 350 I believe.
