Default For $1000 could i worm my way into separates?

So im waiting for the credit back on my 806 still but once that arrives ill be set to get another, but i was thinking about the whole seperates route. for $1000 is there any combination of a pre-amp/amp (emotiva seems to be the most resonable cost for my price bracket) or a cheap reciever with preouts and an emotiva.

I was thinking any way really, like maybe just getting a 2 channel emotiva for my Fronts since i listen to alot of mustic mostly and then let my reciever drive the rest for movies? UPA-2 is 125x2 would be decent for my monitor 70's? but im guessing i would lose the ability to bi-amp them

UPA-7 is 140x5 (i only have a 5.1 setup) and its $600 but that would only leave me $400 to find a preamp or cheap reciever

$1000 is really all i have right now so what do ya think is the best route i can go for now, even if it meant getting the upa-7 and a cheap reciever for now and then upgrading to a good pre-amp later.

And after seeing how way off some power ratings of recievers can be, im assuming (i hope) the power ratings from emotiva are true and arent BS?

Do this and get a Yamaha 663 or a Pioneer 1018 and be done with it....

im seeing both of those for around $550 is that about what they go for?

edit: also i have an idea! since it is a 7 channel reciever, could i take those 2 extra channels and run 1 channel to each voice coil of my subwoofer? (run a y splitter from the sub out into the 2 extra channels) if that answer is yes, then this question will the amp be cranky if 5 channels are on a 8 ohm load and 2 channels are on a 4 ohm load?

Go for the 663 and then pick up an emotiva or head down the used route by hitting up www.audiogon.com but yes, for 1k you could get into separates.

It may have 2 sub outs, I think it does, but I don't recall. That shouldn't be a problem though, as you can always get a Y-splitter for the 2 sub route.

well its a dual voice coil sub, not two subs per say, and i was more so curious how the emotiva would deal with the above mentioned setup

Is the sub passive or active? If it's active, then the Emotiva won't touch it. If it's passive, I'd get an amp with some more heft to it, but which sub do you have as that would be beneficial to know?

Here are some good used options for you,

http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....ilver-5-x-120- is a pretty good deal.

http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/srch...mult&submit=Go multi channel amps 700 or less.

I've got to give credit to crackinhedz. He has posted it here multiple times. I'm not 100% sure when it expires. crackinhedz I'm sure would know.

its passive of course but if the emotiva would be ok with the different ohm ratings on different channels cause the sub is 4ohms then the emotiva would be enough power for the sub

Ya, the emotiva can handle 4 ohm loads, so that wouldn't be a problem. To be honest though, if you plan on keeping that sub I would either get a monoblock amp for it or get a more powerful amp than 125w, but if you want to upgrade soon, I wouldn't worry about an amp powering your sub as any external amp should be able to do it until you upgrade.

its 125x2 since its a dual voice coil sub, so 125 to each coil for a total of 250, which is as much power as the all mighty a2-300 gets.

and yes i know the emotiva CAN do 4 ohms, but i know some amps get cranky when you mix 4 and 8 ohm loads at the same time, my polks are 8 ohms and the sub is dual 4 ohm voice coil.

and yes this would just be a temporary soulution but i just wanted to see if it could hold me over

The joys of an external amp is that you can mix and match ohm loads generally without any issues. However, if you were truly concerned and were planning on Emotiva, I'd contact them and see what they say. I imagine they'll say it's fine, but better safe than sorry.

you could probably get into an older pre amp and amps for your 1K. Outlaw audio's 990 ($700 new) is being replaced this year with a newer model. It doesn't have HDMI or decode the new high rez BD formats.. but it does have the analogs needed to decode those formats if you had a player that had analog outs.

Maybe look at B&K Ref 50.. also no HDMI but a solid pre amp.

so i guess to be honest im not so much concernced with output (loudness) because im in a cramp @ss little room and my 806 was over powering as it was. That aside SQ is important to me, if i go the route of the yamaha and the emotiva will it be a worthwhile upgrade in SQ on the speakers i have in my sig below (assuming i am not tone deaf of course)

It was for me !! I had the 606 & wanted an amp but the 606 did not have pre-out , So I got the 663 . IMO the YAMMY is A better sounding receiver & add the EMO
