I'm not sure about that, but I don't think you'll have a problem.

Better than a Mac, huh? I'm searching for a new computer and was thinking about buying a Mac but your opinions on the Vaio will probably change my mind. Thanks for the feedback

I just purchased a FW280 about a month ago and I love it. 1080p screen, BD burner, best laptop I have ever owned, I would definetly recommend getting one. Here is what I bought.

Great machine but, and no offense or disrespect intended, the display is not 1080p:

Diagonal Size: 16.4 in

Display Resolution Abbreviation: WXGA++

Max Resolution: 1600 x 900

Yeah my bad I guess it isn't 1080p, even though they put the sticker on it saying it is. I do think they make a true 1080p screen on the FW series though

The 1080 sticker is because it can output Full HD 1080 out of the HDMI to a HDTV quite well!

This AR730E/B has a 1440x900 display, HDMI to the HDTV is outstanding!
My other VAIO laptops have 1920x1200 displays... 1920x1080 is there, and a bit more.

Sonys rock!

Default Sony VAIO Laptop - VGN-FW245J/H

I've had IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads (T40, T41, T43, X60) over the past several years - great laptops. But the Sony VAIO FW is an awesome product and my favorite by far. It truly can replace a desktop workstation. With 4gb memory, 250gb HD, 16.4" bright bright display, BD drive, it generates very little heat and the battery life seems to go on forever. Highly recommend it. Might be a Mac notebook killer (kind of looks like a Mac).

There is a full HD screen option for the FW. I haven't seen a prebuilt with quite everything I want. If it wasn't for my attempting to wait for Windows 7 I would have ordered a custom FW-3XX by now.

I got a Sony Vaio laptop right before Christmas at Fry's. It was a 1080p widescreen model.

I took it back 2 days after I got it. The screen was so bright I could never get a good picture while watching Blu-rays.

l ended up getting a Hewlett Packard HDX 18.4" 1080p laptop that plays Blu-ray.

The picture was a no comparison vs the Sony for Blu-ray.

I flew home over Christmas & watched Iron Man & Dark Knight on the plane. I was in heaven!

The best choice I've ever made for laptops.

I love Sony products but their display was way too bright to get good contrast & really weak blacks.

Too bright?
Fn + F5 turns the brightness down.

This is the first time I have ever heard/read a complaint about a laptop being too *bright*.

I tried that & every other tweak but never could get great blacks or great contrast with the Blu-ray picture.

It was a no brainer when comparing the 2 side by side.

First of all, the brightness on a notebook is great. I don't like to squint to have to see a notebook.

Second of all, I have had nothing but problems when I purchased an HP notebook. I will never do that ever again. So, good luck with yours.

Third, the picture on the Sony is better.
