Default Vaio laptop to Panasonic 1080p TV

Hi all

Total Bluray noob sorry. This has probably been asked and answered in other posts but i can't find it.

I have a VAIO VGN-AR630E with 17inch screen, Bluray, good RAM processor and video card.

I want to watch bluray movies through my Panasonic 42inch Plasma.

I have connected the tv through a HDMI cable and everything works fine, but I get no sound (except through the laptop speakers).

How do i connect audio to the TV speakers AND/OR my surround sound 5.1 system?

I was under the impression that audio and video are both carried on the same HDMI cable (seems to be the case with my friends PS3). However sound from the laptop doesn't seem to transmit.

Someone suggested i get an HDMI to component cable, but he has never tried himself, and id like to know before I make a purchase.

Thanks to all.
