Ok, So I am in the process of trying to convince the wife that we need a TV (LN46A650) and need some opinions… I think If I can tell her how much I can sell ours for it may help in the convincing process. We have only had my current sammy for a year and paid $1,100 at that time.. any estimates? $300 $400 $500?? And, if any of you have suggestions to maybe stretch the truth to get a new TV I'm open to that!

Hey guys, not trying to be negative here, but why would you marry a girl who doesn't let you fully enjoy your hobbies? You guys are talking about selling the old tv and lying to the wife about the sell price and keeping the tv at a friends house and lying to ur wife that you sold it... are you serious? You shouldn't be married to a girl if you are gonna lie and manipulate her.
I am married also, and when we moved into our apartment my wife insisted that we get a TV at least 46" in size. I also upgraded to an Onkyo 706 reciever and the Energy 5.1 Take Classic system and when the wife came home and saw the 5.1 setup she replied "So where the hell is the 7.1!?". Now thats what I'm talking about!! Maybe you guys should marry a girl who lets you fully enjoy your hobbies or enjoys the same hobbies instead of lying and manipulating |

understand your point, I guess it just depends on the allocation of money in the relationship based on each members income... I may think a TV is priority where she may have a different priority/hobbie and want to allocate money elsewhere.. IMO Last edited by langn08; 03-22-2009 at 03:17 AM. |

Adjust the settings on your current TV a little bit at a time and make it look worse and worse and then say there is something wrong with the tv and then start looking around for deals on tvs etc and also just go out one day to a shop she likes or something and stop by best buy or somewhere similar on your way home and be like oooooo do you like this one - I dunno but sounds better than my proven method of physical abuse... (kidding!). To be honest if she loves you she will want the TV else find a new Mrs
![]() Don't brake/spill soda on it and claim on the insurance, that is fraud and would only just jack up your premium when your policy came up for renewal (if there is even a payout) and if you go elsewhere you would need to disclose the claim and then they would jack it up to cover the added risk |

You could take a sick day, bust a window in your house (or apartment), and make the TV disappear.
![]() Is your wife a movie lover? Then start dropping little hints on how 1080p would vastly improve your watching experience. play your cards right, you may even be able to upgrade your surround sound too. (Oh honey, look at this, the new Onkyos offer full 9.2 support, wouldn't that make movie night and blu-rays just sooo much better) Or, here you go, start subtle little changes in the picture settings (spread it out over a couple weeks, this will give you time to shop around for a good deal on your new TV) until the picture looks horrible. BAM! instant reason to buy the new TV. Boy, I feel like a terrible person right now. Nothing I offered was honest. ![]() |

I just sold my 42" 720p Vizio for $600, I would say if you can get between $500-$600 you would get a few takers. I am getting a 32" for about $550, so new bedroom TV and $50 in the pocket, nice... maybe use that for a new blu-ray...hahaha

I bought a 58 inch plasma behind my wife's back when she was on a trip.
When she came back I said it was a present for her. I got away with it. I'd suggest the following: Take a day off work and install the new TV and get rid of the old one or leave it at a friend's house until you have a buyer. Pay some of it in cash (or all in cash) so that it becomes a sort of "virtual" price. She might not even notice. As funny as that may seem, I upgraded my Sub at one point and she did not even notice. To me the subs were much different looking but she didn't notice. |

So many options! you guys don't make this easy! Well I have recently noticed 4 black lines on my TV durring dark sceens or if it is on and no picture being fed... It is VERY annoying though once you notice... (kinda like the studdering that 120HZ takes care of).. So I have that to fall back on.. Ill just tell her thoes black lines means it will explode and kill us both unless we get a LN46A650

Beta, stop trying to make me feel bad..... Besides the guy wants me to come over on Sunday for a BBQ and set it up for him. So to get a whole new HT system for less then $1k is not bad. ![]() |
