MS doesn't control Rueters. Just because its on MSNBC does not mean MS penned it. Put away the tinfoil hats.

More FUD. Blu-ray was developed by Sony and Panasonic. You don't see people calling CD's a Sony format even though it was developed by Phillips and Sony.

The writer's view is contrary to the view of every other publication I've read.

It's difficult to understand where her perspective is coming from.

I gave the story 1/2 star rating.

Yes, and once Paramount/DW and Uni start producing Blu-ray we'll see a Reuter's article about how they predicted it all along, blah blah blah.

Pretty much just a take from the retailers pov as to how they feel, and a pretty honest and truthful one.

The consumer doesn't think the war is over as long as both sides have visibility. Of course, that's in retail's hands.

good feedback all. title updated.

it does run counter however to most all other reports.

i do disagree with retailers though: THEY need to step up and put an end to this. the direction is obvious and for them to state what they did is disingenuous.

Actually Blu-ray, like CDs, was developed by Sony and Philips, but your point is still valid.

There's confusion in the actual DVD revenue drop, as well as how people are calculating it. This article says it dropped by 4.7%. There was another that said the global revenue dropped by 2%. Does this means the rest of the world was flat and the US dropped by 4.7%?

Those numbers are too far apart.

Are you insane or just a red ant? A moron knows this war is over, that's why MSNBC doesn't know it because they are M$ beach.

I am sure obscure Checkoslovakian company that produces a film every 10 years will do a short 5 min film. There will MSNBC saying the format war continues as a major Checkoslovakian film company just announced a new top box office film on HD DVD

No, I can READ. The article quoted was written by Reuters and only carried from the wire service by MSNBC. It was also carried on dozens of other news sites that syndicate Reuters content. MSNBC had ZERO authorship of the article.

I agree the article is wrong, but folks need to put away the conspiracy theories and actually look at who WROTE the damn thing.

I would like to point out that stores do not have do declare a format the winner they could however support one over the other.

Even if executives say one thing now while at CES they still have to go back to HQ. Once there they will talk about implications with their equals and superiors and then make a decision that is best for the company.

In all reality they will wait a few weeks or months to see if Universal and P/DW go Blu, that way the stores do not have to deal with HD DVD loyalists whining about dropping support for HD DVD. If they feel that at some point they can encourage a favorable resolution then they should.

The other option is for consumers to start blaming the studios and distributors for extending the format war by not backing what is now the clear victor, Blu-ray.
