Default You know what I hate about many blu-ray reviews?

They simply state that it looks and/or sounds better than other home release.
It doesn't say much, does it?
It's like stating that a cd release sounds better than fm radio.
It's even worse for a catalog movie when they spend most of the time talking about the movie itself like, "Good movie, it looks better than DVD and VHS"

Most Blu-Rays, even the ones that were tranferred on a mediocre level, are the best home format available. So, all in all, the reviews are accurate.

The thing is, you need to take the reviews with a grain of salt. The reviewer talks about what sounds and looks good to him or her on his or her equipment. Best thing to do is rent the movie first and judge for yourself.

Sign up for Netflix. They offer Blu-Ray.

Good Luck!

Well, the reviewers need a point of reference and so do we.

Is it just me or am I seeing ever more knocks against the reviews/reviewers lately?

What gives?

I somewhat agree with the OP. Stating that "this is the best it's ever looked" is pretty irrelevant, because it's expected. So why waste time writing that all the time? Instead, how about they only mention the times when it DOESN'T look better than the DVD?

Imagine the news reporting "No cure for cancer found today." Every day. There's no need to report what we all expect, unless the unexpected finally happens.

I Think your confused.

He is looking for reviewers to write a more rellivant review about the movie. Stating that "this blu ray is better than its dvd version" is usually already obvious, and not much of a review.

I disagree. They're using the DVD as a point of reference, and letting you know it's better than the DVD is showing you a comparison. If it's A LOT better than the DVD, the reviewer will say that, and we'll figure whether we're content with it or not.

I think a fair portion of the reviews (particularly here) offer a fair assessment of the video presentation.

Instead of just syaing what's wrong, why not offer a suggestion on how to improve the way reviewers states their opinion on the visuals of the film?

See post number 7 of this thread (toefer) as an example.
