Default 1080i or 720p

hey guys,

with the new ps3 update im debating on what would be better for my tv. before it was 1080i due to blurays only playing in that. now with the scaler option im thinkin 720p is better due to the progressive and the fact that i only have a 32" LCD HDTV Samsung. its native resolution is 1366 X 768. so it cant fully show 1080. any thoughts?

Stick to 1080i. I tried it out and the play symbol looked a little jaggy when upconverted to 768p. The video quality was somewhere noticeably lower in comparison to the 1080i mode, at least it did in some parts.

1080i. Downconverting is always better than upconverting.

Not true in my case, also with a 1366x768 panel. Downscaling from 1080i the edges of the white Sony Pictures Home Entertainment logo for example were just a little too jaggy but upscaling a little from 720p the logo looks just as high resolution without the aliasing.

At 1080i I occasionally noticed interlace combing on moving pop-up menu elements, with 720p it's gone.

Probably best to see how both look on your tv though.

1080i for me, looks better, cleaner and crisper.
