Default Denon 2809 center channel volume

Hi Everyone, I have upgraded from a Denon 1706 to the 2809. I have ran through the Audessy setup and did a six-position calibration. However, when watching either HD cable shows or Movies in DD or DTS, the center dialog channel seems to be much lower in volume than the surrounds. This was not the case with the 1706. I have a complete 5.1 Speakercraft setup. The center is the AIM Series 3 LCR. Any thoughts on how to tweak the setup so that the dialog is much more pronounced? Thanks so much! Jeff

what sound mode are you using. I've been messing with my modes like crazy lately, and the instruction manual is clear as mud when it some to a simple question of: what's the difference between Direct Mode and Standard. Of course you get somewhat of an explanation, but not why it makes something sound better or not. Anyways, make sure your receiver is on STANDARD mode, that seems the best for me. If not, I would suggest recalibrating, and doing all 8 areas that it allows. The more, the better. Look at the diagram in the manual for ideas of where to place after you've done all your seating. MOST IMPORTANT, is to do your first audio calibration test where your "sweet" spot will be.

Yes, I have it set to Standard mode and also did the first calibration at the primary seating position. I think I am going to try tweaking the speaker levels manually (+/- db) to see if that makes any difference.

actually just thought of this, but when I bought my Denon, I got the wrong setup calibration microphone. After many calls to Denon to see if a different mic made a difference, and then finally getting an email back from the CEO of Audessy, I found I could not use the wrong mic for perfect calibration. I had to send mine back to Denon, and they returned the correct one. I believe yours should be printed with 409 on the microphone. Might just want to double check.

I will be playing with the manual adjustments this weekend. Hopefully I can get it working to acceptable levels. As for the Audyssey MIC, yes it does say DM-A409.

Still perplexes me as to why the calibration messed the sound rather than made it better. That being said, manual calibration with an SPL meter if you have one, is ideal. IF you have one, or could borrow one, from your seated location, so should have each speaker read the same Decibel output.
