Default Need help with my Denon AVR-2809

I have a PS3 hooked up to my Denon AVR-2809. I have the PS3 set to PCM, but the Dolby or DTS sign won't light up on my receiver. Any idea of what I have done wrong? I'm hoping that I'm still getting the Dolby and DTS.

Thanks

Because the PS3 does not bitsream the HD audio codecs, the DTS MA or TrueHD will not light up. Just make sure you set the correct audio in the blu-ray menu. Your receiver will probably say something like PCM or something. If you're really curious, just hit info on you PS3 menu (triangle button) and it will say in the top right corner what audio is being played.

Default Some answers

If you have everything hookedup correctly (PS3 to hdmi IN on Denon / hdmi OUT from Denon to hdtv) Then the next thing to do is to check to see if the settings on your PS3 is set for BD/DVD playback through HDMI. B.) check to make sure you set your audio output on your ps3 to hdmi. C.) Check all the tab boxes for all the sound formats you want to play through that hdmi cable on your PS3 setup screen. ( Save it and your done with your PS3 setup).

Move on to your receiver. Your Denon receiver should be already hookedup to your tv via hdmi by now. If you hit menu on the reciever it should pull up a display on your tv screen. Try to remember which hdmi port you plugged your ps3 into on the back of the reciever. Under the settings select that port you choose and make its source hdmi for audio and video. Save then hit menu as many times it takes to get out and thats it.

If everything is working correctly it should say Multi-channel In on the reciever display whenever your playing a movie from your ps3. If you increase the volume you should see a volume increase bar on your display to know your reciever is communicating properly with your tv.

Hope I didn't make it sound too complicated. I had trouble dealing with this at first too. In matter of fact throw that instruction manual away. It only confuse me the more I read it and I am sure its confuses you too

Default Explaination

To add onto what Colg.. was saying, The PS3 becomes the brains while your reciever becomes the brauns. In the past your reciever did the thinking on what and how it should be played so it stated the sound field it was doing on the display while powering your reciever. Now with your ps3 hooked up... the receiver is dedicating all of its resources to just amplifing the sound that the ps3 has already processed so you can get the purest sound possible. As they say to heads are better then one... unless they are both dumb jk
