Sorry if this does not belong here but I didn't see anywhere else to put it.
I've been working on my vinyl collection and have noticed on ebay that there are TONS of them from Brazil, Argentina, South Korea, and a few others. The albums in question seem to be the ones that are more rare. Are these bootleg recordings and/or lower quality? They charge a lot more for them and the shipping is borderlline ridiculous. |

The only thing I can tell you is that I have several pressings from Korea, that I bought in Canada from a musical instrument store (I used to play guitar and took my lessons there), and they are fine recordings.
As far as eBay is concerned, I have never bought or sold anything through there and probably never will. I'm just not comfortable dealing on there, but that's a personal choice. Are there no local stores you can avail yourself to for your vinyl needs? John |

So far I've had really good luck with vinyl on ebay. Most have actually arrived with original shrink on them when it wasn't mentioned in the listing. I just thought it odd that the only editions of say; Rush - Counterparts I have seen have been from Brazil. Aside from the high price, I was really worried that the sound quality would be sub par as well.
As for local places, there's a chain out here that deals in it but they jack up stuff like Pink Floyd to $30 even though the cover art is almost completely worn off. I've found some decent stuff in there but my Holy Grails I try to get elsewhere (The Wall, DSOTM, Court Of The Crimson King, 2112...). |

Did you try the US sites like AcousticSounds, MusicDirect, ElusiveDisc, etc.? They are solid (although their international shipping rates suck) and they package their product really well. I've bought some vinyl from amazon UK as well. John |

I do not have my Turntable to confirm my "new" vinyl that I have purchased on eBay either from the US, Canada or from the UK. I hope to have the TT now in about a month it seems.

I have alot of old bootlegs from live concerts that are good to very poor in quality, but they are obvious. Most used to come from Japan and Germany. That's all they are...bootlegs...most are poor quality.

Check out Discogs a lot of times to see where the pressing came from. I have found some instances like NIN- Broken EP and Soundgarden's "Badmotorfinger" where Warner Brazil did a pressing or Atlantic Records Brazil and they're all totally legit if you can track down the catalogue number.
Obviously with eBay you want to go with a good track record. With Discogs you can find TONNES of vinyl as well and it's always listed by condition of media and sleeve and also all sellers have ratings, so you can see who is good and who isn't. Quote:
The Gold Mother (James) and No Jacket Required pressings are also similar where noise floor is - almost totally noise free even in the quietest passages...and all were packed immaculately inside a cardboard mailer with addition LP-sized cardboard cutouts inside on the front and back of EACH LP. Great seller. |

Instead of making a new thread, I'll just hi jack this one.
My current receiver is from the S990THX 7.1 Onkyo HTiB. Onkyo Listing If I purchase a turn table, will this be able to play it? I'm under the impression that I will need a separate amp in order to hear any kind of detail. |

Hijack away! I'm going to do the same thing with my receiver later this year. Most would cringe if you knew what I was playing my vinyl on but when I was putting this system together, I went more for the vintage look rather than the sound it was producing at the time (it was a 30 year old system my father purchased in Japan).
Now I've put money into the TT and a bunch into the speakers and demand that this old receiver be replaced so I'll move my Denon up here and buy a phono amp when I upgrade. Not exactly an audiophile's dream but hey, we have to have some guidelines to work within. |
