Default PS3 problem

Last night my family sat down and watched Sleeping Beauty and everything went fine. Now this afternoon I sit down to watch The Passion of the Christ and the PS3 does not read the disk, nothing happens at all. So I try another blu ray and then another, the same thing.

So does anyone have any ideas as to why all of a sudden my PS3 would stop reading and playing blu's?

First, do you have ANYTHING on your drive that you would not want to delete? If not what you want to do is wipe the whole thing by formatting it. That's what I had to do the first time my PS3 stopped playing discs. I lost over 100 hours of gaming but it was worth it to not have to send in my PS3. Hopefully I helped. Oh by the way to keep from corrupting your HD, whenever you stop a movie, make sure the OS loads completely before you turn off the PS3.

Do you mean restore default settings? I'm not sure what you guys mean by formatting it. Where do I go on the menu to do that?

Thanks

I would say use all, probably the best way to go. Just remember you will need to reprogram your PS3 to recognize its remote afterwards, I didn't remember that and was a little upset the first time I had to format the PS3. I've only done it twice though.

Thanks, I really appreciate all the help. I selected Quick Format and it still won't play a disc. Should I try Full Format or just get ready to send in my PS3 for repair?

BTW, if I bought my PS3 at Wal-Mart not even 30 days ago would I be able to just exchange it instead of sending it off for repair?

I would do the full format then, better safe than sorry dude. Not sure on the exchange, unless you have a receipt and bought Wal-Mart's replacement plan or whatnot.

Yeah you have no idea how upset I was when I had to do my first format, that's why I don't play games I have to save progress on anymore on my PS3. Good luck, going to work now.

About a year ago my Playstation 3 stopped reading all discs. I phoned sony and Had to send my ps3 in for repairs the BD drive had stopped working and had to be replaced. I backed up my hard drive on a Memory stick and then formatted my hard drive before sending it in. I got my ps3 back within the week I sent it. then I restored my hard drive and everything worked like new. I haven't had any problems since.

Exchange it for a new one. BUT tell the Wal-Mart about the problem. If you can't read BD movie discs, that means it cannot read BD game discs.

If you've got game saves, back it up first before the exchange. Just pointing the obvious.

That's up to you. If it's still under warranty, let them deal with it. If it's not, do whatever that's FREE first.

Well, I did a full format on my PS3 and it still won't play any discs, which kinda sucks. I purchased a warranty with it but seeing as I bought it only a little over 2 weeks ago I'm just going to do as WriteSimply and Sonny have suggested and take back to Wal-Mart and exchange the thing. No point in sending it in for repair if I can just go back to the store and get a new one.

BTW, you think they would noticed if I returned without the controller? Those PS3 controllers are quite expensive. It costs to buy a second.

Definitely exchange it at Wal-mart for a new one. Just make sure they know you're exchanging it because it's defective. And I don't think it would be on the up & up to try to keep the controller.

Just take them the console and see what they have to say. Chances are they will open another one, and just give you the console. But who knows

When I swapped my console at futureshop I was just given a box off shelf. I was lucky enough to get a second controller, hard drive, cables, etc. (this was an xbox360)

Well, I exchanged my PS3 just a few hours ago and they gave me a completely new one in a box not just a new console. So I'm about to hook it up and give it a go. Wish me luck (as if I even believe in luck) on this one.

BTW, I hope everyone realized I was just kidding about keeping the controller. Obviously, I had no intention of keeping/stealing it.
