I realize there is a director's cut out there...should I bite on this or wait for a re-release?

You could wait on the DC but don't count on it anytime soon. I bit on the initial release and love it. The PQ and AQ are exceptional IMO.

That Band of Brothers set looks fantastic on that shelf BTW.

This is one of those movies that whenever it's on, I have to finish watching it. Everything I've read says the PQ and AQ are excellent. I will be picking this up as soon as I can find a decent price for it.

I can do nothing but echo the responses in here. The PQ and AQ really are quite good on this film.

This is one of Tony Scott's best movies and Hackman & Washington make great adversaries and showcase their terrific acting chops

I had the same kind of wavering. I had the Extend Cut on DVD so I thought long and hard about getting CRIMSON TIDE and i'm glad I bought it.

First of all, watching the theatrical version let me know that the extended cut is just that. It extends and adds a few scenes but none of them affect the plotline. Crimson Tide is perfect the way the theatrical cut is.

As for the picture, it's an excellent picture. Sharpness and fine detail througout the film. The PCM track is a revelation over the old DD track. Seriously, you can't go wrong with it.
