Default How to end the format war.

I know there are guys on here that have business experience and there are some on here that really know blu-ray. We have 6000 users on this forum and I know we can help get this format war solved. I know they wont just give up, but I know we can really put the foot in the door.

We can do some research and a lot of number crunching and put together a package to explain why Blu-ray is the better format. I think in the long run this will save some pain and suffering from the buyers of HD-DVD. Once we have the package together send it to every studio via Blu-ray.com and let the HD-DVD supporters read the facts. Yea, I know this may not work, but we can try. To me it's really idiotic that HD-DVD is still in the war. I know there is a lot involved in the format war, but I know we can put a dent in the subject with a little research. Again, I may be out in la la land on this, but I want to see it change quick than to let it drag on and on, and have the formats just die out when newer technology is released.

Sorry that will do Nothing. Universal will have to go nuteral or only bluray. There is also Toshiba could stop making players.

The war has Nothing to do with what formate is better, it $$$$$$. The winner will end up with Licensing fees, they will get a % of each hidef dvd made, that is the goal. Billions of future dollars are at stack, that is what they care about.

The format war has been good to us. We would have not seen a 50gigBD so fast, price drops (player & discs), & quity made players.

If there is a sub$300 (msrp price) bluray player by the end of the year & they market it good, the war should last maybe one more year, if that. The best way would one would get a free bluray player when you got a new HDTV. If Microsoft put out a Bluray Add-on ($150 or less) late this year, that would greatly help end the war.

I say, free muffins with every BD player sold. I mean, who doesn't like that? And then the war will be over.

The first format to give away S&H green stamps with their players wins.

Of course only a handful of members here will remember those and get the joke.

But you don't want prices falling too low that quality drops off the table. It's a fine balance.

Indeed, a win-win situation between consumers and CEs is the only one that would work. It is why Blu-ray is still alive, and HD DVD is dying. We can't expect to keep demanding, and the CEs to keep giving without losing interest altogether. It is the very reason HD DVD has no other CE support than Toshiba (where are the Chinese, I might add).

If one is a genuine HD consumer, (rather than one whose motivation is of sabotage), then it should be obvious that competition would continue to exist within a single format, between the CE manufacturers and studios. There is no longer a need for two formats - that was initially a good fight for better specifications, but now the specifications are set in stone.

This really needs to be reinforced for some reason.

We need definately more "major" classic Blu Rays! If we will see the Bond Movies, Star Wars, Alien, Indy etc. very soon we would not need and more postings how to end this silly format war at all...

what sony needs to do is leverage this user base (god, that sounds like corporate-speak) by pushing the BR movie capabilities of the PS3, not just pushing it as a game console. If you ask me, they haven't done a good job of showing ALL that it's capable of. I'll bet there are PLENTY of people out there, given the right commercial, would say "wow, that thing plays HD movies, surfs the internet, plays music & videos, AND plays games? I'll think more seriously about it now" a lot of folks are not aware of all it does. Plus if some of the HDDud naysayers are right about PS3 owners not being heavy BR movie buyers (don't know where that came from, I'm a PS3 owner and I buy movies way more than games), sony could reverse that w/ a short campaign touting the movie/surround experience the PS3 delivers.

You are probably right, thanks to Mr. Lucas who gives a shit what Fans really want and who is rather torturing the original movies to death by putting out special editions which are nice, but people want the originals as well.

Then they are offended that nobody buys the latest repacked special edition, even if they are packed with a non anamorphic old school transfer of the originals...

Come one guys, this really sucks...

They must be out of their mind. Why can't they just do it right?

This is something I'll never understand...

Lucas is simply too arrogant to realize what he is doing...

I don't even want episode's 1, 2 and 3....I just want the older ones in BD...

If it came down to it....HD-DVD can have the newer movies as long as BD had the older ones.....I know it wouldn't make sense story-wise....but I already know what happens and just want the classics in BD...

You mean he's a smart businessman. Star Wars and related merchandise brings in Hundreds of millions of dollars a year. And this is 30 years after the first movie. I would say Lucas is a genius. Or at least a smart savy businessman.
