Default Star Trek Crowds

I have a question for everyone who has gone and seen the new Trek movie. How were the crowds? I really want this movie to make money and the showing I went to last night (9pm) was in a small theater and was only about half full. The line for the midnight showing was not all the impressive either when we were leaving. I'm hoping it was just because it was a weeknight that the theater was not crowded. Would love everyone's feedback!

Saw it this morning. only about 1/8 full...if that.

I only saw 2 shows in all of manhattan that were sold out. Very surprising. The movie was very good.

The advertising budget is more than the production budget and they need to fill the seats to break even. At least there's blu to make up the difference but that means they'll be charging up the yin-yang for it when it releases.

How much was their production budget?

$150 million, and I doubt they would have spent more then $50 million on advertising (probably around $35 million).

So it needs to make about $350 to turn a profit (including everything)

What's your source? Certain sources include marketing in the budget.

1:10PM afternoon showing on Friday in Vancouver was PACKED! I don't think it was quite sold out, but there were probably only 15 seats empty.

Haven't been myself, yet. But a friend of mine went to 10pm showing on Thursday and he said it was sold out, the line for the midnight showing seemed as long as his as well. That is in Honolulu.

All of the merchandise deals Paramount has for the movie, like Burger King and Kellogg, will help reduce the total cost. Seems like there's a lot of those deals too.

Saw it in IMAX at 7pm on Thursday. Sold out. The crowd was in to it, and I'm certain everyone will recommend it to friends.

The 10pm showing appeared sold out, and the 2 other screens had the standard version (non-IMAX), these too appeared sold out.

This could be a huge weekend for it. I've also heard only positive critic reviews.

I went to a 10:10am showing and it was about 85-90% capacity. The 9:30am showing I looked in on was about the same. This is in Brandon, FL.

I'm going this afternoon and going to pick up the tickets via Fandango just in case. The theaters around here are always packed.

Theater was packed but not sold out.

Some guy brought his 4 year old kid and the kid would not shut up.

I went and saw it again last night and I was happy that the theater was a lot more crowded. Even had applause and cheering when it was over. I'm glad all seems to be coming together for this movie. It was awesome!

I have a feeling your talking about the theatre I work at, which, yeah, all our theatres for Star Trek were pretty much sold out- actually all the evening shows were sold out by 3:00! Luckily our manager was hinting that they were gonna move one of the sets of shows into our biggest theatre (which for some strange reason was playing Wolverine last night).

8:45 showing, pretty full but not packed (lower close seats weren't filled up). They had a showing about every hour so that helps as well.

i'd imagine it's hard to sell out a lot of shows these days. especially when they show every half hour or every hour. there's never going to be another batman (and no, i'm not talking about the dark knight).
