Default MAC burned movie will not play on PS3

I am a sony retail associate. Sold a PS3 to a gentleman who will use the it for a bluray player in a tradeshow, as well as for his son to play games. He has a professional who did the presentation on a mac with a bluray burner (standalone, i assume). Apperantly the file format is not readable on the PS3. Does anyone have any suggestions, or do I take a return, and possibly lose someone to HDDVD, which I obviously don't want.

Could it be the format of the movie data itself?

What did he burn?

Since there are no macs that support Blu-Ray, I'm going to guess that he either kludged it, or thought that since it's HD video it would play.

Uh, this is incorrect. Macs do support Blu-ray. There are Blu-ray drives being made by LaCie and others that can be used on Macs and Roxio Toast 8 supports burning to Blu-ray discs on Macs.

There is no OS based support for BR, except as a burning drive, and Toast is simply for burning, not authoring, which is likely why it wouldn't play on the PS3. It's drag and drop file based burning only by their website

It depends if he burned it as a data disk or as a Blu-Ray video disk.

First if he burned it as data disk, which I suspect is the case. (Think of an MP3 disk but with a video file like Presentation.mov on it instead.) This is the most common way people would burn to a disk, not many people are aware of Movie authoring, or even know the diffrence.

Try the disk again but this time press triangle to browse all the folders. this because by default the Ps3 will only display folders with the name Videos, Pictures, and Music, every other folder is hidden.

If you can fine the video file, It's a high posibility it will play since Mac video editing apps should make use of AVC and AAC audio to itunes standards which is playable on PSP and PS3.

If you see corrupt data, it means that he format of the file is not supported by PS3 and not that it can't read it.

just tell the customer that HD-DVD will be no diffrent than Blu-ray on the steep learning curve on using it, but quite frankly there are very few HD-DVD buners on the market, and re asure him that Blu-ray is the future and that HD-DVD is practiacly dead, and wll be obsolite within a couple of years.

It's just wth new technology, only tech enthusiasts will beable to use these efficiently during the early phases. Later tons of user friendly (noob apps) will make life easier for the average joe. It jsut comes with the territory for cutting edge technology. Then let him know that it took DVD 10 years to come this far. Blu-ray has not even been out for a year, and it's catching on like wild fire.

I think when he say's supports Blu-ray, he means if you can put a Blu-ray disk strait into the CD slot and it would play.

That's because you're a hater, although I agree, Macs are pretty worthless for what I need a computer for. I love the crap out of my iJesusPhone and iPod Nano though. That's about as much as I'm drinking of the Jim Jones, er, Steve Jobs Kool-aid.

Macs are vastly evetremely overpriced gouged pre-built computers.
People are better off doing their own research and building their own computers. No wonder why still in recession.
BUILD YOUR OWN COMPUTER INSTEAD OF BUYING SHITE PRE-BUILTS!

Dude, I did! I love Tork, my machine I just built. I agree with you 100% about Mac computers, but their iJesusPhones and iPods are ok. iPads, are totally overpriced when you can just hack a Nook Color, like I did, though.

I'd still rather have a desktop though compared to a mobile phone or tablet. I won't allow any Apple product in my room.
Research and if you have nary a budget like myself to buy everything right away, patience for ordering each part.

I have 2 windows based laptops (3 and 4 years old, gave the 4 year old one to my mom for back up as she's a student now and i don't need it), a windows based netbook (almost 2 years), a hacked nook colour running android gingerbread as a tablet (2 weeks), a windows based desktop (almost 3 months), an ipod nano (2 years), a sony ebook reader (almost a year), and an ijesusphone (almost a year).

I use them all for very different things. I use my ijesusphone primarily as a phone, because I choose not to pay for a landline. Netbook is for more serious work in a quick fix, while the tablet is a toy. Initially the netbook was my ebook reader/quick look up device. Laptops are left over from school, only had two because my first one had screen issues and I needed a cheap one while it was being repaired. laptop is now used for e-mail and basic net surfing when i need to type out long posts like this. got the ebook reader because my mom had one and told me i should get one. desktop is for gaming and BD burninating.

I come from a long line of electronics/techno junkies, and we all save up before we buy our toys.

I'm just a slow upgrader and do love making up words or adding to words especially like you did for burninating. I use my desktop for practically everything though tech related. I'd never ever in a trillion trillion years ever buy an Apple product.

Burninator comes from Burninating, which came from Strongbad's song about Trogdor. Strongbad was about the only thing I liked about Homestar Runner.

I find it easier to surf the web on a tablet/laptop/netbook than I do my desktop since it's hooked up to my tv. I only use the web on that for some youtube videos and to download mods for my games. Also, it's the only one with the BD burner. I was using it to watch BDs while on vacation, because it was easier to take my cpu home than it was to try and unhook my BD players from my tv due to cable management.

I got my first laptop, a 17" Acer in May of 2007 for school. In July, the hinged seized up, and Future Shop wouldn't give me a definite date as to when it would be returned. It was nearing term end (my MLIS progam ran the whole year), and I needed a workable machine, so I bought the cheapest 17" laptop I could find, the PoS Compaq, which I am writing this post on. A week later, my laptop finally came back. I kept the Compaq for back-up.

I had bought a Creative Zen 8 GB MP3 player, with the SD expansion, and loved that player to bits. It was an upgrade from the microphoto, where the HD stopped working as it wasn't solid state. Unfortunately, in the fall of 2009, some rude Walmart shopped pushed me into a display, when I was in shopping, and cracked the screen. By this time, Creative had pretty much died out in Canadian stores, except for the smaller capacity players. I had to break down a buy an iPod Nano, because it was the cheapest for the largest capacity at the time (16 GB), and only because they were clearing them out for the newer models. I use the thing all the time, and bought a radio transmitter for it for my car. iTunes is still the bane of my existence, and I load my player up, and then haven't used it since for the Nano. iJesusPhone isn't so lucky.

I got my netbook a couple months before the iPod. FS had a huge pricing error on their site, which made everything 100 dollars off, rather than just a certain sale item. Needless to say, I didn't get my netbook for 150 bucks (with tax included). I did still want one for reading, and for watching digital copies of my films in the car, so I got one when they went on sale for 180 plus tax.

The following year, 2010, I ended up getting an ebook reader, an original Sony Touch that still requires a separate AC adaptor from USB. My mom had bought one, and I really liked it. I still like it for reading. I use it for straight text ebooks. They were clearing them out for the newer models that were coming out in 2 weeks time.

In October, I got the iJesusPhone, a major upgrade from the Motorola Razr I had been using for the past 3 years. I went with the iJesusPhone because I already had a bunch of compatible accessories from the Nano for it. I also wanted a smartphone, and could only bundle my services if I got a smart phone. Canada also doesn't have half the selection that the States has when it comes to smartphones. I did not want another Motorola. Everyone in my family had blackberries, so I wanted to be different. I only went with the 16 GB model as I already had a Nano, and didn't need the larger capacity. Around this time, my parents gave me an old Zenith VCR from 1991. I still have 3 VHS tapes that need to be upgraded.

November/December - Finally got a blu-ray player and HDTV. HDTV's capable of reading an NTFS TB drive for video, better PQ than when I play the same videos through the computer and then the TV. Thank you Christmas sales. I'm a late adopter for that technology. Also bought a Sega Genesis because my brother was still screaming that I had broken his years ago. Turns out that the red LED power indicator was burnt out, and the cartridges were dirty. So I have my own Sega now, and he has the Frankensega. He had bought me a Gamecube in 2008 because they were clearing them out.

April/May - I bought and built my Desktop, because it was becoming impossible to play games on, even on the lowest settings. I splurged and got the BD Burner. I also bought the secon BD player, the cheapass Seiki from Wal-Mart, because it was hackable into a region free player.

July - My mother went to the states and picked up a Nook Color as they claim they can't legally sell them to Canadians. I had read that you can root them and install Android on them, and turn them into a tablet comparable to the iPad Wifi only model, for 250 bucks. I wanted a tablet to play around with for fun, and it was cheap. It does work great as a full-blown Android tablet too.

I'm all set for tech for awhile now. Everything is still working 100%, and I actually use everything I own. My PoS Compaq is less like a PoS now that it's not bogged down with The Sims 3. I'm still using a 2MP Olympus as a digital camera, that's slow a hell. Haven't needed to upgrade to a better one yet. I'd rather have a new coffee machine.

I apologise if I sound like a braggart. I don't mean to be. I tried to make sure that I got the best deal on everything before I bought it, and waited until sales were on, or bought older models of some items because I really didn't see much of an improvement over the newer one coming out. I used to be fevourantly anti-Apple, until I got the iPod. I don't mind their devices, but i'll be damned if I'll BUY one of their computers. I'll only have one if someone gives it to me, and even then, I'd probably resell it and use the money for BDs.
