Default Got the new Panny TC-P42X1 anyone else

I got the new Panny 42" 720p for the bedroom, wall hung it on friday and it is an amazing tv. Will post pics soon. I really wish I could afford to upgrade my living room tv to the 2009 model. But I told myself (and wife) I would keep it for at least 5 years if not longer.

The blacks and colors look amazing. I watched transformers sat. for my first blu on it and am so glad I went with the new one then last yrs 1080p model. I just used the same calibration setting for it that is on my panny in the living room.

As far as break in I am only going to zoom in on 4:3 content for the first month or month and half. That is what I did w/ the other panny and can honistly say that it has not had any issues. even w/ the hud in Cod4 displayed for a 6 hr gaming session.

I little extra thing that i think is a nice touch is how you can actually name the different inputs. For hdmi 1 mine is "ps3" and for composit 1 it is "Wii". Where as for my 08 panny hdmi 1 is just "game" and component is also "game". Just a little something that I find interesting and a nice touch

So anyone else have this tv yet or the 50" model? If so what are your picture settings? Anything you don't like about the tv?

I love them both. I like the higher contrast ratio and black level options on the 09, but my older one is bigger and 1080p. I still need to mess around a little more with the pciture settings on the new one as I think it could look alittle better.

Does that 600hz actually do anything for motion or is that just a marketing ploy?

Not sure about the 600htz as last years had 400htz (i believe) and I have not issues w/ mine. They did double the native contrast ratio on the new models from last years.

I own the tc-p50g10 panny for 2009. I don't think the 600hz really makes a difference, i have tried to see it when gaming or watching action movies but i can't tell. The set does have an amazing picture though i really love the thx mode on this set i find that i use it for almost all my viewing.

Wow wish I had the money to afford a Panny like that.

I guess to be honest, i originally bought the samsung pn50a760 but after a month the power button on the front of the set stop working, i know its not that big of an issue but when you give 2 grand for a product, well the damn power button should work, so i took back to my BB and exchanged for the panny man am i glad. the panny wasn't available when i first purchased my sammy, and when i took the sammy back they had just recieved the first g10 so i said yay and i'll take, again man im i glad.

I picked this set up yesterday at BB - had a $500 price match credit on a replacement TV through buy-back (not too shabby - paid 2k for a set 2.5 yrs ago, got it bought back, got a larger LED lit DLP and was able to get a price match to lower the price by $500)

So with a little cash out of pocket this time around, I was able to pick this up and set it up in my formal living room - I plan on wall mounting it but that will involve opening a wall and/or finished basement ceiling to run all the wiring I would need to the mount location.

I hooked it up with a coax direct in to the set and it picks up the locals in HD along with others of analog and digital stations.

Has a nice picture but is smaller than I am used to (61" Sammy DLP)...

I don't like the add/remove channel functions - the menu is too slow to scroll through and remove the duplicates (which there are a lot of).

I will hook up my Oppo 970 to this set to see how it does with the upconversion of DVDs.

hey, in cnet´s review they say that you can see greyish lines diagonally throughout the display in lighter areas. Do you see them?

not at all...after I read that I looked and looked but can't find them

I am only running coax direct in - not HDMI or component sources yet

Some are saying that those that can see them see them when the set is off and it may be related to the anti-reflective coating on the set

My friend is looking for his first HDTV. The last time I heard from him, he was interested in a 32" 1080p LCD. So, I went on Amazon, and saw that this TC-P42X1 is actually cheaper than a Sony or Samsung 32" 1080p LCD set. What do you guys think is a better TV for someone buying a first HDTV? Personally, I think I would prefer the extra 10" in screen size, even if the resolution is only 720p. I don't have a plasma, but I would guess, for Blu-ray, the better black levels would more than make up for the lost resolution.

One more question: Is it worth $200 to jump from a Sony 32" 720p LCD to a Panny 42" 720p plasma?

depends on how close he wants to sit...most viewing will be 1080i or 720p and with a 42" screen, to see the difference between 720p and 1080p, you'd have to be sitting closer than about 5-6 feet

I am pleased with my set and find myself sitting there watching ball games when they are on my "in the clear" HD channels instead of going to watch the game on the big set in the basement theatre room

What I have noticed (and only because I really cleaned the screen for the 1st time this weekend) is a diagonal grid pattern that is smaller when up close and larger as you move back. It is not a room reflection and disappears from view on anything other than a black screen (can be seen when the tv is off) and can't be seen after moving about 3-4 ft away from the screen.

These wouldn't be the "greyish" lines, would they?
