United Kingdom Apollo 13 Blu-ray on Amazon 04/01/2010!

According to Amazon.co.uk Apollo 13 has got a Blu-ray release date of 4th Jan 2010 from Universal! Man I hope this sticks!

I just hope they'll include both original and IMAX versions.
I've never seen the IMAX-one though, but it would be a great feature having both on the BD.
They better do it, as a DVD-version even had both in it.
Not sure about the HD-DVD though...
Unfortunately it's quite a bit shorter, I believe even almost a half hour.
Maybe they could even create some type of new cut, seeing 'The Dark Knight' has IMAX incorporated too.

The IMAX version is seriously edited from the theatrical version due to the inability at the time for IMAX to carry a movie that long, and the Super35 footage was just open matte'd to 1.44:1

It's really not a bonus feature worth anything. The FX weren't even re-rendered, and it was heavily DNR'd with the "grain freeze" method that people later saw on the Matrix prints, where all the grain freezes until something moves too much and a beehive explodes.

Odd choice on the date though, since it's 3 months short of the 40th anniversary of the flight. Not sure if that's quite accurate

Well it already seems to have come unstuck. The Amazon UK link below just has the usual "notify when available" option.

Isn't that what remastering is for?...
They might as well mix the IMAX-footage with the rest like they did for 'The Dark Knight'.
Unless they'd have to remaster everything into IMAX again due to the bad quality you mentioned.
If it's not originally in IMAX, and the IMAX-thing was only to show off in theaters,
I'd be fine with the longer cut in the default/original format anyway.

But just thinking they might use the BD-format to incorporate IMAX somehow.
Not that it's totally necessary.
