Hot damn that was a knock out. Seriously impressed and absolutely timeless. Obviously one of the best UHD's of the year.

Already watching it again now with the Ridley Scott commentary... love that the UHD has three commentaries on it. Some don't even have one and leave all that on the blu rays.

I need to make a note to get a 4 disc case for this one.

Gunn's reply was something along the lines of "8K will never be a home entertainment medium as human eyes cannot distinguish the difference between 4K and 8K". He also stated he believes that 4K is about as far as we'll ever advance when it comes to home media resolution.

But, who knows

Manufacturers of TVs and the studio heads will still push in out, regardless of the physical limitation of our eyes. People will still buy it.

They already have 8k sets. But, they aren't supposed to hit homes until around 2032 or somewhere around there. So, enjoy the awesomeness of 4k right now. We have plenty of time.

I'm pretty pissed off... none of my surrounding Best Buy, Walmart, or Target locations received a single copy of this.

Yet, I had no issues picking up 'Red', 'Red 2', and 'Cabin in the Woods' in the same day.

I now had to preorder this through Amazon, yet it's temporarily out of stock, so now I have to wait on that.

****ing Warner Bros.

I feel exactly the same. Was really looking forward to already owning this. Now I have to wait even longer. Pisses me off that WM can have a new 4k title like Hickock, that no one is rushing out to buy, but can't even get a few copies of Blade Runner. Baffling!

I feel like there's always someone saying that about every resolution, frame rate etc. Either way, I can't see the average household upgrading to another round of TV's any time soon, or being financially able to. 8K seems like it would be a rich man's niche and not have enough market saturation to support physical media beyond ultra low print, premium priced boutique items for a very few select releases. 8K gaming on PC is happening, but max settings and a good frame rate is going to be getting into sports car prices. It's a unicorn.

By the time 8K is affordable, I'd say we'll be lucky if anyone produces or distributes media that you can own, digital or physical. Every hour you spend watching an old movie that you already own, free and clear, is an hour you didn't spend paying for something new and watching some new ads. Plus, the economy will inflate and the wealth divide will grow, and there could be some technological innovation that blind sides everyone and changes how we all view and consume media. Roving gangs of youths will be trying to pass laws against your energy consuming obsolete technologies.

This is what happens when I watch gritty, near future sci fi.

I must say, like previous WB catalog transfers, this is not blowing me away. It looks...solid. It's a good presentation. But WB has a habit of "cleaning up" grain a bit more than I'd like. This doesn't "pop" with fine detail like Sony catalog titles. Everything looks too clean here, and detail suffers. On top of that, I don't think Scott's restoration is helping matters. The mix of teal and red in the grain patterns often looks digital and unnatural to my eyes, creating subtly odd swirls of discoloration in skin tones and backgrounds.

Pretty disappointed, TBH. But I'm sure I'm all but alone in this opinion.

I don't usually re-watch discs so soon after the first viewing, but I might have to with this one.

The specular highlights on this disc...

I must admit that while watching BLADE RUNNER in 4K, I spent a fair amount of time thinking about the potential for other titles on the format. I'm more convinced than ever that Warner Bros. will release all of their catalog "majors" on UHD-BD. I'm talking WIZARD OF OZ, CASABLANCA, EXORCIST, SUPERMAN '78, BLAZING SADDLES, GONE WITH THE WIND, 2001. I don't have any doubt anymore that those are all coming -- especially in light of a full-on Nolan dump this Christmas.
Not a fan of all those, but yes in general it's the catalog stuff that's getting me super excited for the future. Scan those original negatives and put those 4k masters on disc please, these real film movies look stunning on the format. Which is handy since new release films seem to be going streaming exclusive already.

Gone with the Wind already looks jaw-dropping on BD. I can only imagine how it would look on 4K. Three-strip Technicolor with WCG? Oh boy.

Finished in 4K? I thought the UHD was derived from a 2K master.

Picked this up at Fry's with the promo. This is my first time watching an older movie in UHD and some shots are stunning. I want to do an A/B test later with the Blu to see the difference.

So I'm not big on slips or steelbooks, but I've got a minor gripe. I'm so disappointed those same old ugly WB menus made the transition to UHD.

I was really surprised by the menus. I almost thought I threw the Blu-Ray or DVD in. These are really similar to the early days of the formats and really looks bad.

For the A/B Comparison, you'll probably see a bigger different on this title than most titles as the Blu-Ray disc is about 10 years old (and I believe had issues even back then as they tried to compress it enough to fit on a HDDVD disc)

Am I the only one who liked what the regular Blu-ray looked like? It sure did not look bad to my eyes, especially considering it's a 10 year old BD25. I saw it for the first time last year and I remember liking the overal look of the movie. Guess I'm in for a real treat then when I pop in that 4K disc when it arrives...

No you're not. This thread was the first time I heard of people not being satisfied with it. I wasn't going to get the UHD because I was happy with the blu but the reactions have convinced me otherwise. Hopefully it gets an nz release sometimes I can't be bothered importing

I literally laughed, when I popped the BD in after watching the 4K. It's junk, and embarrassing that they didn't at least re-encode it.

But hey, it's only Blade Runner, amirite?

Target won't have it in store either. Best bet is to try to order online.

Or wait awhile. Unforgiven wasn't around at the Best Buy here then showed up like a month later. This will probably be the same. Maybe check the one in Wilson every few weeks.
