While whether seamless branching is even possible, considering the sheer amount of differences between the two, I agree.

Include the original theatrical versions and whatever the hell is Lucas' "true vision" at the moment. Hell, if they decided to release the UOT by itself with no alternate versions at all, I wouldn't care. But my point is...there's no point in arguing what should be left in and what shouldn't. The unaltered original trilogy means only one thing, and that's that they are unaltered. As for the altered versions, I couldn't care less since I will never watch them.

I actually like the original Ewok song. It's particularly effective for that scene as it climaxes, immediately before the credits role. I remember, the one (only) time I sat through the SE in 1997, the changes were so baffling to me. It didn't feel the same at all.

I feel so sad. You guys probably all got to sit through the whole trilogy in theaters back in 1997 and sadly I never got to see Return of the Jedi in theaters. I was hoping to with the 3D re-releases but then Disney had to go and cancel them.

LucasFilm cancelled them, planning for the sequels. They'll be re-released next year, no word re: 3-D conversions.

The 3D conversions for both AOTC and ROTS are reportedly complete:

I know, I'm talking about SW, Empire, and Jedi. They're coming out next year as part of the build-up for Episode VII.

If it's any consolation, I saw Star Wars while still recovering from chicken pox.

I would love to see a set with the UOT, the '97 SE, and the 2011 SE. Add in all the extras (From SW to Jedi, and Empire of Dreams especially), and that would be the perfect set! I think such a set would silence the complainers from both sides of the Force

I originally saw Star Wars for the first time in the theater during a rerelease leading up to Empire. I remember the tauntaun in Empire scaring the crap out of my little brother so much that my mom had to take him to the lobby. I remember Jedi mostly because my dad was out of state for several months with work so my mother took my brother and I what seems like 2 or 3 times a week to see it. Good times.

Still, if they released something along the lines of what I wrote above about the OT, I'd love a similar package for the PT. 3D version on one disc, branched editions (theatrical/DVD/BD) on another, and an extras disc for each movie with all the superb DVD 'making of' stuff & deleted scenes which were missing from the Blu-rays. Might as well put in a PT-specific bonus disc of some sort to round it off to 10 discs, culminating in a 20 disc Ultimate Edition Star Wars I-VI Saga Boxset. I would pay whatever it takes to get such a set, but the words "Lucasfilm" and "comprehensive home video version" have never really gone together, and Disney certainly don't give a shit about extras. Shame.

While I personally wouldn't buy a prequel set it would great if they did get a huge all versions included Edition. It would sell and would take less work to put together than the OT and it would help offset some of the cost. I still can't for the life of me understand why there isn't a 3D set of the prequels since they were already done. Seems like a huge waste of money and time.

I was five-years-old in 1977 and saw each original Star Wars movie at least several times through 1983.

When the SEs came out in 1997, I made an effort to see each one of them twice as they were being released several weeks or so apart if I call. I could really appreciate watching these on a "big screen" again despite the changes. I recall being impressed with just how good the print quality looked.

Just pointing out...Disney releases the Marvel and Pixar product, but doesn't dictate what's on the releases. Pixar makes their home video releases, Disney distributes. I can't see why that would be different with LucasFilm. The primary reason Lucas sold LucasFilm Ltd. to Disney in the first place was because he saw how hands-off Iger was with Pixar (which Lucas still refers to as his company).

Oh, I'm well aware of that Ernest, you know I am. But, like I said, LFL has never really excelled on the extras front (or indeed the "Ultimate Edition" concept in general), and *should* Disney have any say in the matter we'd be lucky to get a commentary and a 20-minute featurette, so we're ****ed either way.

I remember LucasFilm promising a massive "archive" release on Blu-Ray after the DVD versions came to market....well, I remember a guy on a forum who claimed that's what LucasFilm was going to do. My response was, "Why would they do that? You always hold something back so you can sell the sets again in five-to-seven years."

If they ever release the originals in a respectable manner, will you guys ever bother watching the 2011 versions again? I won't.

Honestly, no. In my opinion the SEs were a fun but ultimately mishandled experiment. After 17 years I simply have no interest or enthusiasm (positive or negative) toward them anymore.

Dude, Rick McCallum himself talked up the eventual DVD release back in the day and said the same sorts of things, that it'd be a "film school on a disc" 'cause it'd be so detailed and jam-packed with stuff. Uh-huh.

The nearest LFL ever got to a release that seemed *really* special IMO was the Executor VHS set in the UK. I've still got mine, it's awesome. http://swhomevid.site40.net/isc_specs.jpg

I dunno about the 2011's but I've got a soft spot for the '97 versions and even the 2004 DVD iterations to some degree (I like the redone CG Jabba, for example), but the extra extra extra alterations to the Blu-rays of Star Wars and Jedi are too much, even for me. It's always struck me how Lucas hasn't really ****ed with Empire a great deal, only adding in some window dressing (literally) and a few beats of pointless exposition here and there. He knew that it wasn't his movie, it was Kersh's, and he had the good sense to leave it more or less intact, whereas the ones he directed (and I include Jedi in that list, unofficially) he just couldn't stop messing with.

That's probably what the forum guy was talking about. I didn't believe it then, no reason to believe it now.
