Lucas is a master editor, he edited many movies uncredited, including the Indiana Jones series.

The "I love you" - "I know" is the only thing Lucas let Kershner/Ford change something as far as I know of.

Please don't rewrite history. Read the official books, not some outsider's opinion on the internet, thanks.
Lucas was the original editor.

Spielberg did Indiana Jones, Why do the GL lovers have to try to give him credit for something he didn't do.

I'll give him credit for ruining the PT's and the OT's with the stupid changes.

No, you obviously don't know what you're talking about. I'm not gonna comment anymore until you get all your facts straight. Thanks.

The eagerness to deny that Lucas could do anything good is descending into parody.
Most definitely..

Here is how it plays out. We say that Lucas is the creator who without, Star Wars wouldn't even exist.. and had the biggest part in the OT, about 60%.

We concede that his control on the PT was probably not filtered enough, at about 90%. People still loved it even if kids who grew up on Star Wars felt betrayed in their adulthood.

One camp is using emotion to distort truth. One camp is using logic to speak truth. It is dangled, but you know where I stand.

I'm not trying to say Kurtz or Kerschner are overvalued by the Lucas dissenters, but I don't see how they try to remove the logic that he is the creator of each and every Star Wars story and other people merely edited his vision in the OT (like a novel editor would)

Does anyone know if the OT deleted scenes are available online? because I can't see to find a lot of them on YouTube. The only ones I could find from the OT are: Han and Leia on Hoth, The Search for Artoo, Luke's Lightsaber scene and the BUNKER REDUX. Obviously I don't own the complete saga set, just the individual 3-pack OT set, but I'd love to see the rest of the OT deleted scenes.

I don't know why they are so hard to find because the PT deleted scenes (of which I don't care about) are so much more accessible to find online.

Seeing as it's copyrighted material I imagine Fox/Lucasfilm has them taken down when they are found.

Fair enough, but wouldn't the same logic apply to the PT? Because the PT deleted scenes can be easily found.

Don't bother engaging in any conversation with posters like that they are not worth anyone's time they bring the same tired stupid arguments to the table, Gary Kurtz and Irvin Kershner really have not made much of anything worth watching outside of their work with Lucas so I am just saying. I also love how PT detractors want to discredit Lucas for the OT and want to stretch to only credit others and anything they dislike in the OT say that Lucas was involved. I really hope that if some of you shameful so called "fans" don't come out in support of Star Wars again when Episode 7 comes out because the media tells you it is good, just stay home and don't bother having anything to do with Star Wars

Agreed.

They should just stay away from Star Wars, as they never understood what Star Wars is about in the first place, and the only thing that keeps them attached is their nostalgia of experiencing the first one when they were innocent children. They don't realize that they have become bitter old men, who have turned to the dark side long ago.

It's truly pointless discussing with them, because they will never get it.
Why can't they just let Star Wars go, and move on, when they clearly hate it so passionately? Well, haters are gonna hate, I guess.
A sad little bunch.

I am going to have a Star Wars OT marathon with a friend who has never seen the old ones.

I am so exited, as the last time I saw all three in one day was probably back in

1997/98 when the SE VHS set had just been released.

Can't wait!!!!

Yep, it's become an almost pathological affliction for some folks, fuelled by the perpetual whining of people like Gary Kurtz.

There's no denying that the OT films were true collaborative efforts and are all the better for it, but Lucas was still the driving force behind them. Hell, perhaps if he'd taken the credit where it was due then this persistent myth that other people were entirely responsible for SW's success would've gained less traction over the years.

For example, he rewrote Empire extensively after Leigh Brackett turned in a draft, but (IIRC) because the WGA would only allow 2 writing credits he generously put her and Larry Kasdan on there. As for Kurtz, his 'hands off' nature - Fisher recalls that he did little on the Empire set apart from taking photos - led to costly overruns on the sequel and placed the whole film in jeopardy, which is why his services were not retained.

Did that friction make for a better film? It's debateable. Besides, how many people here would want to go through the trauma of their self-financed film being mere days away from being placed into the hands of guarantors - and also the franchise rights reverting to the studio - just to turn out a decent film? No, I think Empire turned out as good as it did in spite of its troubled production, not because of it.

I wonder if this is ever going to get a price drop? I would love to get it to see the older versions I missed/never saw.

YES! We watched them from 3p.m. until 10p.m., with pretty much no breaks in between.

He had already seen the PT 3 times, and likes them very much, but he always shied away from watching the OT, because he thought they would look too old, and bore him.

He liked them. Episode IV not that much, as he said it was much simpler than the TPM, but he found it interesting enough to continue, and he really enjoyed TESB, and then ROTJ.

His ranking of the saga is, from best to worst:

1. ROTS
2. AOTC
3. TPM
4. TESB
5. ROTJ
6. ANH

so, he clearly prefers the prequels for their complexity in the storyline, the better acting, and more epic scope.

He didn't like Han Solo, and thought princess Leia was a joke compared to Padme.
Also, he said Anakin's journey has much more emotional punch to it than Luke's.

He is 20 years old, I think.

He likes the whole saga now, and is exited to see Episode VII.

It was really wonderful to see the movies again in one day.
I used to to the a lot in the late 90s, but never since, so it was incredible to do that again.

I saw so many things I had never noticed before, like many of the matte paintings, the power cables on Endor in one shot, Obi Wan's priceless expression when Han Solo is boasting about his Millenium Falcon in the hangar bay. The tape on the stormtrooper in ANH, etc..

Awesome!

I have just finished marathoning the saga in chronological order. I have to say IMHO the PT is in no way inferior to the OT. I grew up on the OT and LOVE IT!!! However, with all of it fresh in my mind I must state that they both have equally cringe inducing as well as magnificent moments! The saga taken as a whole is a marvelous fantasy experience that nothing else even comes close to. The next time I watch these films I think I'll try the flashback order of IV, V, I, II, III, VI. Can't wait for Episodes VII - IX

Shhh don't say that too loud some obnoxious pompous user is going to give you a link to their deity Plinkett, because thinking for yourself is a bad thing, and if you are like me and am older and love the PT we must be blinded by nostalgia of course Or is it that many people actually do like the PT hmmm makes me wonder

Why are you trying to give the impression that he was on the set the whole time?
