Blu-ray Samurai

I have no problem with Harmy's or TeamNegative's versions because theyre simply preserving something for the viewing public until HOPEFULLY an official restoration occurs someday. This is not their way to deter the public from buying the official thing. Harmy himself even stresses that those who check out his versions should already own the official BDs. Sure those who created those versions and those who see it may be walking a tight rope legal wise but its not something thats meant to pull people away from what's available officially.

1. My old VHS Copies of the Original Versions and they still play perfectly. 2. The LaserDisc Set of the 1997 Special Edition Versions. 3. The 2-Disc DVD Editions from 2006 that have the 2004 Special Editions & the Original Versions. I've also got the fourth Disc with the extras from the 2004 DVD Boxset. 4. The Blu-Ray + DVD Combo Pack from 2013. If 20th Century Fox & Disney end up negotiating a reasonable deal and if they go ahead and restore the Original Versions and release them on Blu-Ray with in beautiful HD presentations I'll totally buy that release the day it comes out and it will most likely be the last time I buy The Star Wars Trilogy on Home Video. I'll always prefer the Original Versions but I actually wouldn't mind if the 1997 Special Edition Versions are also released on Blu-Ray. They were never re-released again after 2000 and they don't have any of the Visual Errors that the 2004 & 2011 Special Edition Versions had. Hopefully this year I'll score an AC-3 Demodulator for a great deal and I'll finally be able to watch my LaserDiscs of the 1997 Special Edition Versions with their 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio Tracks. |

No. You're the single hold-out. The torch-carrier. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I have three Pioneer LaserDisc Players and the best out of the three is my DVL-909. But I hope that I'll score a great deal on a fully functional CLD-D704 with the remote control this year. |

Blu-ray Ninja

Whether or not it will be a colossal seller is debatable, but there is every reason to release it and really zero reasons not to: 1) The obvious: The importance and cultural significance of the films. 2) The films need restoration anyway, seeing as the "Complete Saga" editions Lucas churned out are stuck in old 2K scans that were created for a DVD release in 2004. 3) It'll make money, especially if Disney releases it in some kind of uber box set, packed with special features and possibly various versions of all the films. It's always been a matter of when and not if since Disney took over. |

The library of congress has archives of the original 1977 Star Wars, and 1980 Empire Strikes Back. There are also private collectors with 35MM prints, it can easily be restored, it just takes the copyright holders to get their heads out of their asses.
Star Wars is there thanks to it being submitted for copyright, and Empire is there thanks to the National Film Registry actually being provided a print when it was inducted a few years back. There have also been private screenings of original prints from private collectors in the past, so they are no doubt out there in the wild as well. |

I'll also feel a pang of sadness as to the misguided artist Lucas has become. As opposed to the 'Let's hang him!" mentality that gets loosely spouted around here by the vocal minority/pseudo-intelligentsia. |
