Exclamation Is Anybody Ever Going To Ask About Dts-hd Ma For The Ps3???

Well, CES is here. Sony has announce BD-Live for the PS3. Is anybody ever going to ask or comment on the PS3's ability or inability to decode DTS-HD MA and send via uncompressed PCM?

Is this just unimportant to a lot of people or something? Why does this topic continue to be ignored by the mods of this site, other industry insiders, and Sony?

I'm getting a VERY bad feeling about this. I'm beginning to think the closed lips mean that the PS3 won't ever be able to support DTS-HD MA.

I think it certainly is Numero Uno on the want list for MOST PS3 owners, count me in as one of those. Not sure what they wait or holdup is... could be Sony, could be DTS. I sure wish that someone at SCEA would give us an answer IF it is coming out period. Because if not, I will be buying a Samsung BDP-1400 to bitstream the codecs to my receiver.

If you watch insider comments, you'll see Sony cant put this on the ps3 until another pc of hardware has it. We got 1.1 after the BD30.

Expect to get 2.0 and DTSMA after the BD50 is out.

Has it been explained why? Like legal reasons, common courtesy, etc.?

Id say its a common courtesy, dont want to steal the thunder. They prob new all along that the ps3 would fit up to 2.0 and that others like panasonic would be a little behind the curve. It seems fair.

Woulda shutup a lot of critics though if they just popped the ps3 out of the gate with 2.0

dts hd ma not coming for a while. while dts-hd-ma would be nice, only less than 5% of ps3 owners probably have the equipment to pass dts-hd-ma.

sony needs to get its butt together with things like in game xmb access, home, 1st party software, bd-live, hell the majority of people would enjoy more vizulations on the music player more than dts-hd-ma support. after they are done with that then we can talk about decoding more hd audio codecs, but i don't think its coming any time soon.

to 95% of the ppl out there dts-hd-ma support for the ps3 is worthless.

Curious why you say that... every FOX/MGM titles has it, which is about 1/4 of my collection, and a lot of other folks as well. I would guess that a good portion of people with PS3's would hopefully have a receiver with HMDI inputs for PCM output. Why hold back on it? Dolby TrueHD has the same requirements, and it was built-in from the get go.

From what I understood, in-game XMB is already possible, but is up to the game developer to implement... I could be wrong on that one.

Anyone with equipment to currently be listening to the PCM tracks through HDMI on the PS3 will also be able to take advantage of dts-ma decoding, and I know lots of people waiting for it.

I completely dissagree. The requirements to hear DTS-HD MA with the PS3 are the SAME requirements that exist to hear both Dolby True HD and Uncompressed PCM audio: An A/V receiver that accepts Uncompressed PCM audio via HDMI.

Both Dolby True HD and DTS-HD MA (eventually) get decoded internally and sent as Uncompressed PCM audio via HDMI.

You DO NOT need an a/v receiver capable of decoding Dolby True HD and/or DTS-HD MA... all you need is one capable of accepting Uncompressed PCM audio via HDMI and there are PLENTY of those a/v receivers out there.

Out of the percentage of users that actually use their PS3 to also view Blu-Ray movies, there are A LOT MORE then 5% of them who are waiting for this.

With all the CES 2008 announced high end Blu-Ray players capable of internally decoding DTS-HD MA, IMHO, we should see the PS3 firmware update no later then September (further boosting it's sales appeal for the all important Q4). BD-Live or Profile 2.0 firmware is probably coming in a matter of days to coincide with the January 22nd release of the first title using the features: SAW IV.
The features have allready been demonstrated on a PS3 at the CES:
