Confirmation...

"Sony Pictures is one of the first studios to release movies in IMAX Enhanced, with Alpha, Venom, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle being the first confirmed titles.

Paramount has also committed to releasing titles but has yet to announce its slate. The first content from Paramount will be available sometime in 2019."

I just hope we also get an IMAX Enhanced release of Blade Runner 2049 since Sony distributed it outside of the US and Canada.

Gonna be funny if the IMAX Enhanced versions are worse for some reason and yet your streaming license gets "upgraded" no matter which you prefer.

Maybe they’ll offer a separate listing for Enhanced titles, like how Unrated and Rated releases get both.

Yes, that AVS page is just a repackaged press release. Be aware that AVS is being sponsored by IMAX Enhanced. Here is their hub: https://www.avsforum.com/imax-enhanced-hub/

I still don't really understand this!?!? Am I correct in saying that it's basically like the old "THX" branding? It's just basically saying that it's up to IMAX standards???

And regardless of whether you stream or play a Ultra HD Blu-ray, there are 15 confirmed launch titles on the way including Venom and Alpha.
So does that mean we're gonna get Alpha in UHD?

Sorta. It sounds like they're looking to do particular things, like open up the aspect ration to "full screen" and removing grain and noise for a "clearer picture." Whether they also do anything else or not I dunno. It could easily turn out to be a processed looking misframed mess IMO, which is why I joked above about streaming versions being "upgraded" to use it.

They're slathered in DNR and the audio settings are forced into some stupid bass-boosting setup to override user calibration.

So yeah, it's like THX except objectively bad.

Some will like it, some won't. I can't see it having a huge impact unless they get more studios to do new releases in this format.

Are they slathered in DNR or are we just assuming that?

They said themselves they're going to use DNR, so it's not a big assumption, but no we don't know for sure yet what it'll look like.

DNR is literally the big selling point, and the major difference in picture aside from potentially aspect ratio.

I’m questioning the use of “slathered” since I didn’t notice any of that with the two titles released so far.

With something shot to look as crisp and grain-free as possible like those two titles were, I'm not surprised. When it comes to actual feature film content...we'll see.

For sure, I’m not discounting the possibility that it’ll end up being a hot mess, I’m just wary of saying something is “objectively” a certain way when we don’t have the proof just yet.
