I own an HD Ultraviolet copy (disc to digital purchase at Vudu). It looks very good in my opinion, though it's from a dated source. It would look amazing if they gave it a 4K scan

I'll have to buy that one. I can't wait to see 'The Peach Orchard' and 'Crows' in HD. The colors were amazing on DVD; I can only imagine what it looks like in hi-def.

Why not just announce the titles on twitter and leave the official press release for monday?

I hope so. I'd love to have After Hours.

That's assuming they know which titles are going to be announced Monday.

Why not just wait for Monday?

I mean, seriously, whatever titles they announce won't be available for three months. What's the hurry?

I think his point is basically why wait if they already know what they're releasing? Isn't it merely a question of making a bullet point list on their site with five titles?

Not that I care particularly about having the announcement RIGHT NOW THIS SECOND.

Just want to remind everyone that TCM's Friday Night Spotlight for this month is on the works of Orson Welles. Starting at 8 p.m. EST TCM will show the following:

Chimes at Midnight
Othello
Macbeth

Also, Throne of Blood(Kurosawa's take on Macbeth) will be airing right after Macbeth tonight. WonderWeasel mentioned this a few days ago, but I thought another reminder would help. I will watch this lineup to distract me from the disappontment that the August titles weren't announced today.

Has anyone here watched Larisa Shepitko's The Ascent? I watched it a few days ago and was so shaken by it. It is probably one of the greatest war films I have ever seen (the last war films that I watched were Rossellini's War Trilogy). I try to avoid watching war films or documentaries about war because the subject matter is so depressing. However, The Ascent just pulls you in and won't let go. I will definitely check out Shepitko's other film Wings ASAP.

There may be any number of reasons that we aren't privy to. The problem is that people seem to be taking this as some sort of personal slight.

If they are going to be out in three months why give the announcement 3 months in advance they could announce them 1 month in advance.

I think the problem here is that we are spoiled because it has become a trend (probably a rule) since it has been years that they announce titles around the 15, there have been a few times that they were announced on the 14, but lately it always is either 15 or later, also this forum is all about Criterion titles, we like to speculate on what is going to be released and guess what films are hinted, so i can understand why the complaints.

I don't think anyone's complaint is really serious, it's just like when a title gets announced that you don't care about, it's hard to not feel a bit disappointed, let's just hope they don't keep us waiting too much on Monday, i remember that last time it was postponed they announced them earlier than normal the next day.

I can't even imagine being emotionally invested in hearing about releases three months away on Friday versus Monday.

Really? Can you imagine people looking forward to the announcements each month?

If so, imagining a little disappointment when the announcements are pushed back can't be that much more of a stretch.

"A little disappointment" isn't the kind of emotional investment I am talking about.

No one would complain if they followed other labels in the way they randomly announce titles

Well, we would be disappointed when the change happens, but just one time.

The emotional whinging seen by some above and on Criterion's social media. Anyway, whatever, so not worth debating like this about. It was just a comment.

In these situations I imagine everyone in the Criterion office carrying along their normal business, then mid-afternoon hits and someone's like "OH SNAP we forgot to update the web site"

If that's the case, someone should teach them how to use calendar alerts.

Since Lynch announced today that he is back on the Showtime revival of Twin Peaks, perhaps Criterion is giving it a few days before a MULHOLLAND DRIVE announcement.
