I’ve always been a fan of Ms. Blondell. She always made the part of wise-cracking friend/secretary more interesting than the roles demanded. Would love to see Blonde Crazy, Night Nurse and, especially, Footlight Parade. C’mon!

Pre-code era Joan Blondell needs more attention on Blu-ray.

She's such a beauty in The Public Enemy.

Not only yes, but hell yes!

I'm absolutely fascinated by the Pre-Code era. I feel like a kid in a candy store. My head is spinning the more I learn about it. Joan Blondell, Barbara Stanwyck, Clara Bow, Jean Harlow, Carole Lombard, Mae West, Myrna Loy, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo. Wow.

I need to grab Design For Living like yesterday. And, Criterion needs to get more of these films on blu-ray. So much to explore.

If my nurses were Joan Blondell and Barbara Stanwyck, I might never leave the hospital.

If they were my nurses I think I have to get a permanent room at the hospital.

Island of Lost Souls is another Pre-Code they have on Blu. If you enjoy Design For Living, I can also recommend (highly) Trouble In Paradise which is DVD only.

I agree that Criterion needs to tap into this fascinating era which has hardly been touched as far as Bluray is concerned. The fact that a big chunk of them are Warner Brothers/First National titles may factor into that, I'm not sure. All the studios made Pre-Codes but WB seemed to excel at them. Their roster of stars, and especially their fabulous character actors, were tailor made for them.

If you want to check out an absolutely gorgeous woman in Pre-Code films, watch Loretta Young in something like Employees' Entrance or Taxi with Cagney. She rates a double WOW!

Yes, I forgot to mention Loretta Young. I was looking at the pre-code website and the roster of actresses. It's a veritable who's who of leading ladies for the next two decades. Even Kate Hepburn appeared in four or five pre-code films.

I just saw Island of Lost Souls last night as I recorded it when it was on TCM. I came away loving it last night. Also, I thought until now that Nosferatu was the creepiest horror film I've seen, but it has nothing on Lost Souls. Also, Laughton and Arlen were superb. I will be getting this during the next sale.

Why I love Criterion-I got a cracked case during the last Flash Sale and requested a replacement. That one apparently was lost so I received the new one in this type packaging that I'd never seen before. I figure if I'm ever lost at sea, I could use it to signal a rescue plane! Seriously, they really do take care of their customers.

I had no idea Criterion's offices are just a block or two from my job

I finally watched my copy of "I Married A Witch" and it looked terrible. I liked the movie but the PQ was a lot worse than this site's review. Horizontal or vertical lines etc throughout the whole movie.

The review denotes the issues with the lines:

"There are some extremely light vertical lines that occasionally pop up. "

The film is 75 years old. Some flaws inherent to the best source available cannot be removed, unfortunately.

Are Criterions part of the B&N 40% off? I was under the impression they usually weren't, but Notify Price has informed me of several price drops.

Still haven't received my November order and they're comparable to Amazon, though, so I won't be biting.

Criterions are included, and right now there is a 20% total order discount (TIMETOGIVE) that gets the final price down to about the same as the 50% sale last month. Discount code expires today though.

^ I would like to add ... WISHLIST coupon gets you 25% off single item... So standard Criterions could be had for $18.

B&N members can place multiple single orders as the code is reusable.
